hey everyone,

i /know/ it's ridiculous to be posting about transfers when i haven't even attended the UC i'll be going to (UCSB) yet, but... i'm an international student, and i'm not too sure what are the likelihoods of being able to transfer from UCSB to, say, UCLA or UCB, or even UCSD. For example, anyone know what kind of GPA should be maintained and what criteria they look at?

I guess i'm just feeling extremely disheartened because I have SAT scores of 2260/2400 and SAT2's of 790/800/800, and honestly I think I could've done better than a self-reported "party school". but then again i /did/ have a 3.1 gpa in school, so.

I'm sorry for rambling - but to anyone planning to transfer within the UC - do you know when you can transfer? anyone planning to transfer soon? :)

Firstly, you should give UCSB more credit than to assume that its a self-reported party school. Im almost positive that any administrator you talked to here would shy away from that term. There are a number of great opportunities that this campus has to offer, and seeing as you seem to be a motivated individual I have no doubt that you will be able to find yourself academically challenged here. In regard to your question on transferring, please see this website:

If youve got your heart set on Cal, I would recommend you visit that campus through the ICV program at the beginning of your sophomore year. Remember, Berkeley is on the semester system whereas UCSB is on quarter. If you visit during the fall you will complete more work at Cal and miss only one quarter at UCSB. Also, summer registration is open to anyone at all UCs so you might consider that as well.

Good luck.

PS Grades and SATs dont entitle anyone to anything.

I'm sorry, I really must've come across as some self-righteous snob. My apologies. :

Thank you so much for the information though! You're awesome. :)

Hey, I don't know much about Berkeley, but I have found some great information on UCLA's website about transferring (even UC to UC). So here is a link that I think you will find useful.
