I have been accepted into NYU Tisch for drama. But now I am thinking about transferring to the department of dramatic writing. I know that you have to be in your department for a full year before you can transfer, but I am wondering how difficult/common it is for current Tisch students to transfer departments? And also, if I transfer, does that mean that I will have to stay at NYU an extra year?

I am fairly certain that you would have to submit a portfolio to be considered. You should post this on the Drama site as well, where I know you’ve got other posts. Do you have other good options for schools? You seem so ambivalent about your placement. I hope that if you enroll at Tisch, you will do so with an open mind and not going into it already thinking about transferring, otherwise it will be quite difficult to enjoy your first year at all.

Ha not really. I got into another school but I wouldn’t want to go to it. And yea I know that I should have an open mind, but the thing is I really want to be a tv/film actor-screenwriter and filmmaker, and later a film producer. And the studio that I got into is playwrights horizons, which teaches you how to do all of that, except for they teach you how to do it for theatre, not film. So I’m just afraid that if I stay in my studio, I’m gioing to be spending my time learning about all theatre and no film/tv, which isn’t necessarily bad, but just not what I was looking forward to. I’m sure it wil all work out though.
