Transferring without AA

I'm currently a student at Seminole State College and I plan on applying to FSU as a transfer student for Fall 2013. I want to seek a double major in Philosophy and Political Science and also have a strong background in Economics (the math is what has me weary of majoring in Econ. I'd rather learn about theory than numbers).

This is my first semester at Seminole State (Summer B). I'm currently taking College Algebra and Oral Communications. I anticipate getting a B in College Algebra and an A in Oral Communications, making my Summer B (and cumulative) GPA between 3.2-3.5.

Through AP, I have credit for the following classes at Seminole State:

Macroeconomics: ECO 2013
Microeconomics: ECO 2023
English Language (4): ENC 1101, ENC 1102
French Language (4): FRE 2211, FRE 2220
Comparative Government & Politics: CPO 2002
United States Government and Politics: POS 1041
United States History (4): AMH 2010, AMH 2020
Psychology: PSY 2012
World History (4): WOH 1023
Spanish Language (5): SPN 2220, SPN 2240
Statistics: STA 2023

I've cross-checked with FSU's AP policy and according to their table, I am eligible to have all these scores validated and credit earned at FSU, so there's really no discrepancy there.

How much does your high school transcript matter in a transfer admissions? I honestly know that I've slacked off in high school and that's why I'm in a state college to begin with. I kind of got my wake up call second semester of senior year after I was rejected from 4 out of 6 universities I applied to. That's when I decided to take it upon myself to salvage what I had left, miraculously passing 7 AP exams this past May, plus the 5 from freshman-junior years. Will my high school grades hurt me still? We're talking below a 3.0.

You plan to apply to start Fall 2013, or during the Fall 2013 semester when the applications open up? The deadline to apply as an incoming student for Fall 2013 passed (it’s July 1). If you haven’t submitted your application (and paid the fees, etc), it’s too late.

Yes, your high school grades (when you apply) can and likely will hurt you if they are below a 3.0, if you are applying without your AA. Basically, if your high school stats wouldn’t get you accepted if you were applying as a freshman, it can (and likely will) stop you from being accepted as a lower-division transfer.

Based off all of your AP credits and everything, how far are you from getting your AA? As is said around here all the time, transferring with your AA is the easiest way, because they DON’T consider your high school profile. If you’re close to getting your AA (I’m not sure how SSC handles test scores towards your AA), you might as well just finish it and then transfer to FSU.

It’s already too late to transfer for Fall 2013, so you might as well set your sights on Spring 2014 at the earliest. If you can finish your AA during Fall, you’d be better off just waiting anyway (so long as you keep a GPA above 3.0).

They are still open for transfer admissions according to their website. I have 69 credits from Broward College and no AA (I was going to get it in December since I only need that total wellness class to earn it). my GPA is 3.67.

Do I have to submit test scores? I took the SATs 4 years ago, my high school GPA was 3.833…I don’t know if that matters or if my SATs have already been filed away.

Where does it say that they are still open for transfer admissions? The deadline is July 1 for Fall: <a href=“FSU Admissions | Error 404 page not found”>http://admissions.fsu.edu/transfer/admissions/deadlines.cfm</a>

If you have 60+ credits as determined by FSU, you won’t (or at least, shouldn’t) need to submit anything regarding high school. You will however not receive priority admission like an AA applicant will. If you’re only the one class short, just take that class so that you will have your AA.

You won’t be able to transfer until the Spring 2014 semester anyway at the earliest.

We are no longer accepting freshman applications to the main campus in Tallahassee; however, the Panama City Campus is accepting freshman applications for fall 2013 through July 29. Please note: the Panama City Campus does not accept applications from international students.

We are currently accepting transfer applications for fall 2013 and spring 2014.

That page likely isn’t correct. One thing FSU is bad at is keeping their websites updated.

It takes 6-8 weeks to process a transfer application. They aren’t going to have enough time to process your application and get you an answer for Fall, hence the deadline of July 1.

Hey Pasbal, hope you see this. The website was correct, I applied and got in on monday  without an AA too. It took them almost 4 weeks to process my application but only because my summer grades weren’t up yet and I needed them to transfer.
Anyway, already attended orientation. All looks good.

@DannyJativa1: hope you applied and got it!

Wow I’m honestly shocked it took 4 weeks for them to process your information, especially with all the issues they’ve been having lately. Well… lucky you, is all I can say.

Agreed, that’s a LOT of luck to have gotten a response. I personally can’t believe that they accepted applications at that time considering they never have application deadlines extended it seems.

4 weeks is significantly shorter than it’s supposed to take (anywhere from 6-12 weeks). Count yourself amazingly lucky.

I was also surprised that during orientation a lot of the students were asked if they had JUST been admitted if they weren’t found in the system fast enough.

However (and as expected), I didn’t get much financial aid in grant form even though I qualified. I got loans…which sucks. BUT I’m really happy to be here.

Oh and I started classes yesterday! :D
