Transferring without visiting?

I have a dilemma. I got into UNC as a sophomore transfer, and I think I'd like to go, in fact I think it'd be a perfect fit for me, but it doesn't seem like I'll be able to visit. If I can visit, I don't think I'll be able to stay overnight or anything because I'm not sure there are any more accepted student days or anything like that.

So if I chose to go there next year, I'd be going to UNC never having been there, as an out of state student, not knowing anyone there. Would just visiting for the day be worth it? Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Try to visit. The visit will give you a sense of the environment and whether you want to spend your time there. If not, try looking for online links that rate the campus and overall feeling.

I quickly did a search and found a virtual tour of the Chapel Hill campus.

I am having the same problem. UNC is pretty far away from where I live, making visiting more difficult.

Does visiting have an impact on how the office weighs a transfer application? For example, if I applied to a school across the country from where I currently live, would they appreciate the extra effort I spent to visit, or does it make no difference?

Really depends on the school. A small LAC might take the visit into account but bigger schools do not. If they do, the visits create an unfair advantage. Think about it. Someone who has the resources to make the visit will receive a better chance at admission while someone who does not have the ability to travel will be placed at a disadvantage.

I think a visit would be worth it if you can make it happen. I’ve visited 2 schools I applied to and want to visit another. I don’t think I could reject or accept any offer without first visiting the school.
good luck =)

Thanks for the responses. It turns out they don’t have any overnight programs. I’m going to try and go down there for a day and take a tour, but even then I feel like I won’t get a feel of what its really like, which is too bad because I really think I’d like it there, but it seems foolish to go to a school without anybody or knowing much about the lifestyle there and if I’ll be able to adapt to it…
