Hello, I am a Californian high school senior. I was planning to attend college out of state, so I didn't apply to any UCs or privates in California. However, I did apply to one Cal State as an afterthought. I got into my top choice schools out of state, but my dad has recently became very ill and I don't want to leave him. So, I was considering going to CSU Eastbay for a year, and applying to UC Irvine. Will this be hard to do? Thank you in advance for your help.

Sidenote* With my SAT scores and high school transcripts I am very confident that I could've gotten in had I applied straight from high school.

Instead of doing that, go to a community college. You’ll be closer to your dad and you can get guaranteed admission to Irvine as long as you choose a non-impacted major and meet all of the TAG requirements. You can then transfer after a year or two to Irvine. Sounds like the perfect path for you, in my opinion.

yeah community college. it’s hard to transfer to UCs as a CSU student.

I was considering that but do I get financial aid for community colleges if I qualified for it when applying to universities?

Thanks for your help.

as the previous posters said, it is definitely better to transfer to a UC from a CCC. hope you can attend Santa Barbara City College, it is perhaps the number one ranking CC in california and my CC was really trecherous. so pick your CC as carefully as you would a university. follow the IGETC for the UC (including a foreign language) and complete as many prerequisites as you possibly can using assist.org.

i was able to get Pell and SEOG grants, scholarships, and loans at my CC. really sorry to hear about your papa. good luck with school.

also, be sure to update your FAFSA and include the CCC colleges asap.

get fee waiver. if u qualify ur classes are free

If you’re from east bay, you might wanna look into Ohlone/De Anza. It’s easier to transfer because of priority, and they offer TAG for some UCs (if you’re set on UCI, there’s a TAG for that, just for security’s sake)

You won’t need your SAT/HS transcripts when you apply to transfer from CSU or CC.
