transferring

I am graduating this year from high school and will be going to community college ( I want to go to Hillsdale but I do not have the Gpa for it 3.4 not good enough). Would I be able to transfer after 1 year of community college? I will be doing the honors program and will hopefully get a 4.0 GPA. Also could I go to Hillsdale for four years to get the whole college experience. Thanks all for the help.

Did you apply to Hillsdale? I believe the due date for early admission just past, so I’m curious if you’ve given it a shot before considering this option.

I will be applying but I cannot see myself getting in with my grades

Stay upbeat and positive and wait for the results of your application. You may be pleasantly surprised. If you get rejected, speak to your admissions counselor about transferring in after one year at CC. Many have done this over the years, but I’m unsure of its frequency today.

You will definitely want to max out on credits that transfer from CC: even if you want to go to Hillsdale for the full four years, there’s no sense in taking classes that won’t transfer. Your admissions counselor can also help you with this. Consider a double major or serious minor when you look at credits that will transfer.

My son transferred in some years ago after receiving his A.S. degree from local ComCol (in one year after high school graduation). He was at Hillsdale for three years (because it’s all we would pay for!), and loved it.

Note: the academic environment at Hillsdale was exponentially more difficult than that at the Community College. Be prepared.

But I do agree: apply anyway, and be in touch with an admissions adviser right away. They can suggust coursework which might benefit you at Hillsdale, and may even give you an approximation of your chances.

I agree completely that you should not consider your GPA the determining factor. There is much more to the admission decision. Good luck!
