Transferring?

I’m a freshman at a large university with a good reputation on the East coast who is seriously considering transferring. Unfortunately, I am very unhappy here. My current university is located in the center of a large city, meaning that there is a serious lack of campus/community. The students here are not as academically minded as I hoped. I want to go to a smaller school with a more intellectually driven student body.

I think most of these problems would be solved at Reed. However, I have several questions about the transfer process that I hope someone on this forum can answer.

  1. I applied, and was accepted to, Reed last year. Will rejecting my past acceptance hurt my chances of being admitted again this year? Also, does anyone have stats on the mean college GPA for transfer students?
  2. Are there any transfer students that can speak about the process? How are transfer students received? Was the transition smooth-- both in terms of studies (specifically credit transfers) and socialization (making friends when everyone has established groups)?
  3. I’m involved with several comedy groups at my current university. What’s the comedy scene like at Reed, and Portland at large?

Thanks for the help!

I don’t know if this text box will accept it, but Fellatio Rodriguez is the improv comedy group at Reed, and it’s amazing. They have a show about once a month.

That you were admitted already should pave the way for you, providing you haven’t completely !@#$%^ up where you are now. If you are a first-year, your high school grades will have weight - perhaps equal to your college grades. I bet that you get in without a ripple. No worries. (I know, I am not in your seat!
