transferring

Hey, does anyone know anything about transferring to usd? I unfortunately did not get in and was extremely disappointed, I'll have to attend chapman university instead. Is it hard to tranfer into USD? how long do I have to wait, how many credits, and are they good with aid to transfers? any info about transferring in general would help, if anyone has transferred into USD please tell me how everything worked and how your transfer grades were, anything will help. Also, does anyone know about transportation between orange, ca and san diego? any info on the would be helpful as well

what were your stats? how'd you get into chaps and not usd?

these were my stats:
-Class president
-National Honor roll
-620 v 590m 620 wr sats
-amazing ec's including president of drama club, baseball team, over 350 hours of community service
-writer/director for student performed one acts
-new yorker from nationally ranked high school (used to be in top 10 but i'm not sure of the # now, school does not rank either)
-3.5 out of 4 uw gpa
-6 or 7 ap classes (recieved AP Scholar Award as well)
-White, Catholic

Wow man you fell through the cracks, thats insane, those are really solid stats. I know people w/ 1100 and 2.9's who got in. All i know about transfers is about 1,000 apply and 600 get in.

I think you probably didn't get in because you needed a lot of financial aid. along with your SATs although those normally wouldn't matter much. I had about the same EFC and I only got about 20,000 in free money from USD (half was a scholarship) so its iffy for financial aid for them. You have great stats though and I would try to do really do well at Chapman and hope things go better if you try applying again.

yea mike im shocked you didn't get in... did you try calling admissions?

I too am surprised. Have your guidance counselor call for you. There is an extreme male shortage at USD so that does not make sense at all. Were you missing anything?

well the thing is i talked to the admissions office and i asked them to reconsider me for admissions and i wrote this whole two page letter to them saying everything about me and why i would excell there, but the only thing they sent back was, what looked like, an automated response e-mail, saying that admissions was very tough this year, and yadda yadda yadda. I'm still on the waiting list though, so maybe i still have a shot, i was so mad when this happened though, especially now that everyone is saying that i should've gotten in and if people got in with 1100's and under a 3 gpa? that makes me so much more ****ed off. I e-mailed them again asking why exactly i didn't get in and if there was anything i could do to ascend to the top of the waitlist, i'm still just really dissappointed though, because i wanted to go there so bad, whatever, things never go my way anyway

wow, i guess you can't say ****ed on these bored, to answer ur question i was not missing anything and my 7th semester grades were straight a's as well

man thats crazy i go to usd and i know kids that got in with much less...write an appeal letter to the committee thats ******** this school is crazy easy.

I have to admit, Mike, I am surprised you didn't get in; maybe they had a huge # of apps. But Chapman is a great school--who knows, you may love it. But get good grades and apply to transfer if you still want to attend USD. Re: travel---you can take the train from Santa Ana near Orange right down to Old Town that is very close to USD. Good luck---and don't worry---God has a plan and a purpose for you. (At 55 it's easier for me as a mom to realize this with hindsight).

thank you, i feel a lot of comfort and support from the people on this board, and though it will be hard to no go to san diego (which is where i want to someday live) i will get grades and transfer. I'm still a little unsure of how people view chapman though, especially in the socal business area or just the socal area in general, because i live all the way in new york, so if someone could tell me how people view chapman and a degree from there i would appreciate it greatly

It depends on what kind of job you want to get..I'll tell you one thing, no one (not any big companies) look at USD well. Career day here is a joke.

Chapman is a good small school here in southern Calif. Lots of Catholics as a side note, Mike. Don't worry. And USD is highly regarded also.

are you from california? i read somewhere that sdsu accepted like 3% of applicants from outside CA. i dont know if usd prioritizes though...

is it substantially harder to get into USD or State U of SD out of state?

does anyone know anything about transferring here? i know that i have to have 24 credits, but do i need to have them when i send in my application or can i apply my second semester of freshman year? will i have to wait for the second year? anyone who has transferred your advice is much needed and appreciated, thanks.
