I applied for SFS, but didn't get in. I really want to transfer next year. Does anyone have any advice on how to increase my chances? Would retaking the SAT do any good, do they even look at that for transfer students? And, I was accepted to Tufts, Barnard (affiliated with Columbia), and GW Honors... at which school would I have the best shot at transferring?

I do believe they still look at SATs..but that's probably not as important as you having a GREAT gpa your first sem at wherever you choose to go. I would say go with Tufts too since their Int'l Relations program is the strongest out of your 3 choices =] Good luck with the transfer~!

Sharone,

I am a transfer as well. My best advice is to do very well at your university during your freshman year, and keep an eye on Georgetown requirements. Many students transfer each year to GU, and many lose lots of credits. Try and stay on track with our general education credits here (ie: theology and philosophy that many other schools don't require)

Don't give up! Georgetown isn't going anywhere, promise!

-Tortuga

I was at GW this year, in an honors-style program, and I got into Georgetown as a transfer student with a 3.65 first semester. So its possible to get in from GW! Plus, you can always incorporate your experience in DC into your essay, which could be an advantage. Those are all great choices though, and I doubt GW would make it easier.

But it is possible, if this is what you decide!! On the other hand, you might want to go with the more competitive school/best fit because you might end up loving it and then you will have picked it for the right reason. (I would narrow it down to Tufts and GW since they are both known for their international relations programs.)

be happy where you end up, don't get your heart set on transferring somewhere else. the best school for you might be the ones that you were accepted to.

My advice would be to make sure you get your Economics classes out of the way - they REALLY look at that and it is emphasized on their website. Also, try to start learning another language and get some courses under your belt.

I would say go to GW or Tufts. Tufts has a stronger IR program but you wouldn't be honors like at GW (which would be cool on your transfer app).

Krocket is a great example - he applied out of GW and got into GU so it's possible!

By the way, why are you transferring out?
