So I'm considering transferring (I'm currently a 2nd year at... UCLA) and was wondering if I could get some insight on what it's like for transfers as far as meeting people and all that. I have a pretty good group of friends here and it seems like it could be difficult meeting people, especially since I probably wouldn't live in the res halls or anything right?

Also, anyone have an idea on how much stock is put into the competitiveness and difficulty of transfer applicant's college? I mean, all rivalry aside UCLA is pretty comparable and I have a 3.5, might drop into the 3.4's. But that's a few points less then the average accepted GPA. Anyone have any insight about this?

I don't mean to dissuade you from applying to USC, but why is that you wish to transfer from UCLA? As you mentioned in your own post, USC and UCLA are comparable - chances are, whatever qualm you have with UCLA, you'll have with USC. Unless of course, that qualm is a poo poo football team, in which case enrollment at USC would most definitely be a remedy.

Anyways, yes, admissions do consider the reputation of the applicant's school during the transfer selection process. I'm fairly positive that your UCLA 3.5 will be met with high regards. That being said, however, I must caution you; USC has been notoriously schizophrenic when it comes to competent applicants. Sometimes they'll admit them, sometimes they won't. I get blistered with red hot anger every time I think about how whimsical and flippant the admissions committee can be. Am I biased? Do I hold a grudge? Hell yes. I was rejected last year with a 4.0, and then admitted on appeal.
