I am currently an african american male at Dartmouth with a 3.1 gpa. I am majoring in African American studies. I was wondering what where my chances of being able to transfer into Vanderbilt, Harvard, Yale, Northwestern, U Penn, Stanford or Columbia. Which ones do i have a chances of getting into.

Why do you want to transfer?

The school is not what i expected

Your chances of transferring to the schools listed is going to be very low (gpa is going to kill you).

Your GPA probably will make it tough to transfer at the level of Stanford and the Ivies, but there are still lots of good universities in America that would be glad to have you.

You were able to make a case that got you into Dartmouth, and some of that case may still be valid for a transfer. More important, why did you think you wanted Dartmouth and what went wrong? How much of the problem is Dartmouth, and how much is you? (If it’s you, moving probably won’t help.)

At this point, I’d suggest worrying less about prestige, and focus on where would you be happy and successful. Do you want to continue in African American studies? Do you want a place with different demographics from Dartmouth? Do you want something more urban?

I know from your other thread that you want to get into a good law school, and the single best thing you could do is get your grades up (obviously, a higher LSAT would be nice as well). So, you either find ways to get them up where you are, or go somewhere else where you can. Why would you think that, if Dartmouth isn’t working for you, that Harvard, Yale or Stanford would be better?
