Transferrr

Hey, i’m a college freshman at a four-year liberal arts school looking to apply to transfer for Fall 06.

From Northern NJ; white, middle-class, male.

H.S.

GPA: 3.1 (9th-11th) 3.6(12th)

SATS: 1090 :-(

ECs/achieved: volunteer work @ soup kitchens/church, black belt in karate (done for 8 years); honor roll 12th grade

College
major: Political Science

GPA: 3.7/8 (estimate, semester not over yet)

ECs: Pre-law society, against drunk driving club, likely dean’s list/national honor society

Two great recommendations (1 from NYU alumni, if that has any impact)

schools i’m applying to:

NYU CAS, BC, BU, The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), Colgate, Temple, Fordham. Maybe one or two more–let me know with suggestions.

Also, one question: Does asking for financial aid have any impact on transfer admissions?

Any suggestions/comments whatsoever would be nice, thanks.

Anyone? Please?

Seems like you will have a good chance at several of the schools you listed. Your college GPA will help.
You are a college freshman? Do you want to share where you are currently and why you wish to transfer?
Keep your grades up and you be fine.

Yes, I'm a freshman. Right now I'm at this small liberal-arts school in PA, Saint Vincent College. I basically chose this place because it was the only one that offered me money, however, I didn't really like the other schools I got into anyway. There are a few reasons why I would transfer: Locality of the school--virtually in the middle of nowhere and far from home. In turn, there are few opportunities around campus. Also, the programs for my major (pre-law, internships, etc.) are really lacking. Overall, the small campus and the above mentioned gives me the feeling that I'm being held back and that I could accomplish and experience something more somewhere else. Somewhere else being the schools I listed and possibly a couple more.

I'll bump this for you, hoping you get some more folks to write with some suggestions/thoughts.
Seems like you are looking for a more cosmopolitan setting.
Best of luck.

Yep. Thank you.

annyyyyonnnee. or any suggestions of other similar schools I would have a chance at?

The thing I would keep in mind is that while admissions to BU is competitive in and of itself, transfer admissions is even more competitive. Typically students have a 3.5 in high school and college (and yes, they do look at high school grades and performance) and a 1300 on the SATs. I think last year the acceptance rate for transfers was only about 35%. I don't mean this to sound like the voice of gloom, but if application fees are an issue, it's just something to think about. Having said this, if BU is really your first choice school, it never hurts to give it a shot! Definately call and make sure all your materials are in from St. Vincents. Hope this helps!

If you're interested in Boston area schools I would also consider:
Emmanuel
Northeastern
Wentworth Institute of Technology

You mentioned Temple, I would also look at UPitt and Drexel since they're both in similar settings.
