Transfers and Porter

Are you guys excited about the transfer community? Do you think you will live there the whole year or just a quarter?
It will be nice that its all remodeled.

i’m not entirely stoked about this… mainly because i think porter might not be the best place for me. Meeting other transfer students should be good though :)

I’m happy because I love porter and the transfer community seems like a good idea. I just want to know my college affiliation and do the whole housing process and get the show on the road!

quick clarification… as transfer students living on campus are we actually going to be living in Porter, or “adjacent to” Porter or what?

Yes I believe it is on porter college. I think the housing website under the transfer community says so.

[UC Santa Cruz Transfer Student Information](http://www.housing.ucsc.edu/transfer/index.html)

@UC80: I guess its good that you get to leave after one quarter.

Lol it’s not that I’m so against Porter, I’ve never even seen it. It’s just that I’m not into toking up and partying too often as the Porter stereotype suggests; I really want to excel in my studies and go on to grad school. I’ll see for myself soon enough, I can’t wait for this fall, it’s going to be so epic to finally move out and have the real college experience ;)

yeaaaa!!! Where is everyone from?

santa barbara… i would go to UCSB, but I’m so over my hometown, and plus SC campus is way nicer for sure.

I’m gonna guess that most transfers probably want what you want. I want to go to grad school too :)

sweet. what for? My sister is going to grad school at NWU this fall for chemistry, so I’m gonna one-up her and get into grad school for physics haha. Not really my motivation, mainly I want to get a respectable job and know a lot of physics :)

If I can keep my grades up, UCLA’s 2 year Screenwriting MFA. My major is film.

niiice, UCSC is good for that; pulp fiction ftw

lol I actually got rejected but am writing an appeal as we speak.

good luck with that man. I got rejected from UCSB which is hilarious since I’m from SB and any idiot with a 3.0 coming from santa barbara city college can get in. Somehow UCSB managed to not receive my full transcript, even though I entered it all in for the UC application which was sent to all the other schools without issue.

I am pending on UCSB Still. You can call and see where you made a mistake and fix it sometimes and then they will review your app again. I know of someone who did that. I have a 3.35 but I’m taking my math class this semester which messed me up.

ucsc is better than ucsb anyway =]. i visited both campuses a few weeks ago and fell in love with santa barbara. ive lived by a beach town my whole life and wanted a change. im from redondo beach area btw.

I’m a transfer student living at Porter, and while I really like it here, make sure you get yourself in an apartment, cause I’m at the dorm and it gets old fast. Porter and Stevenson are probably the best colleges for apartment living; Porter has a great dining hall, is near the west gym, has dope apartments, and has the meadow and trails near it. It’s very beautiful here. Stevenson has great apartments too, and literally almost sits on the East Gym.

If you’re in a Porter apartment, you’re gonna be “slightly” adjacent.

It’s not a non-stop party here, and if you need time to yourself there are plenty of lounges to chill at. The vibe here is just eclectic; a bunch of kids really trying to find out who they are. And there is stage here now, with outdoor performances. And there’s always someone playing or singing cool songs and harmonies. Don’t worry yourselves, Porter is the place to be.

I’m so confused between residential living and college affiliation, so we live in Porter but are not affiliated with it?

How does that work? Does that mean we can’t partake in the activities at Porter? And what exactly does college affiliation entail? Does it really matter?

Also Pscholler thanks again for some info about UCSC you posted in that UCSB email thread, good to see you again :p

I think you just might be my new best friend :stuck_out_tongue: I love film but I’m an English Major, I hope to write for film or TV someday as well, I want to try minor in theater so I can take up some acting classes too. I’m sure I’m going to be doing Literature as a major, but I do want to give acting a shot and scriptwriting (though that’s something I can do in my free time).
