Hey guys, I have been on here a lot over the past couple years and had an account once upon a time (I forgot what it was so I had to make a new one) and I wanted to tap into the infinite resource that is CC haha.

It hit me just the other day as I was hearing about all my friends still in high school getting accepted to University X and Y that, oh crap, I will be needing to get ready to apply for transfer schools next fall.

I go to a nameless Community College in California right now and through such valuable assets as assist.org and articulation agreements with many private schools, I have been able to create a rough guide/outline to what courses I needed to take to satisfy major pre-req's. Well, many of you know the surge of enrollment in public schools (CC's in particular) and how difficult it has been to get classes here. Last fall registration turned out to be a total SNAFU and I was only able to register for 12 units of social sciences (My petition for Chem was denied). This spring I am taking 19 units and getting back on track. However, I can't help but feel that last fall was lost time.

When I started college I had my mind focused on going Pre-Med and eventually graduating and becoming a doctor. My declared major is psychology right now, but I have no idea which major I want to transfer as. The problem with focusing on Pre-Med is that I have just went through my Freshman year without taking a Lab science class.

This post serves seeks advice on a couple questions I have regarding school. The following are the courses I have taken/am taking.

Fall (12 Units)
Cultural Anthropology
Sociology 101
Child Psychology
Abnormal Psychology

Spring (Present; 19 Units)
First semester English
Introduction to Criminal Justice
Jazz History
Microeconomics
Calculus 2
Art History

GPA at the end of Spring semester = 3.77

The first question I want to ask is regarding classes I should try to take next Fall. This summer I plan on taking first semester Chemistry. I can take up to 19 units a semester, so in the fall I have these classes from which to choose:
2nd sem. English (Must Take; 3 units)
2nd sem. Spanish (4 units)
2nd sem. Chemistry (5 units)
1st semester Physics w/ Calculus (4 units)
Speech 100 (3 units)
Philosophy 100 (3 units)

Two things that really scare me are taking 2 Lab sciences in the same semester and taking less than 19 units. I feel that since I barely "scraped by" last fall with only 12 units, I need to make it up with taking more than I "need" to. This is probably unfounded but what do you guys think? Would it be better to defer the brunt of my sciences to after I transfer so I can have overall better grades or should I take them on so the University sees that I'm challenging myself. I really don't know if the courses I have taken are "rigorous" enough to be considered so by University standards. Please advise :)

My second question is regarding EC's. Last fall and up until recently I was working 30-35 hours a week in addition to going to school full time. I honestly had no time to go do much of anything other than school, work, eat, study, work out, and sleep. Now that I got my hours cut (stupid economy :[), I have time to volunteer and get involved more with my school. I recently got involved with Alpha Gamma Sigma honors society and I'll probably start volunteering whenever I get the chance (How many hours a semester should I aim to volunteer? Are there any general guidelines eg. which types of organizations "look better" or should I stick to what makes ME feel good?).

Thanks so much guys!
