Transfers: Declaring Majors at MIT

I've applied for a Transfer for Fall-2014.
Just curious to know how do transfers get to declare their majors?
Are there any priorities to freshmen?
Can I declare my major at the time of admission?

There are no enrollment limits to majors. I’m not sure about the other two questions but I think you don’t need to worry about them before coming to MIT.

I would suspect that transfers would be able to submit paperwork to declare a major almost immediately – after all, they’ll want to get you assigned an academic advisor, and your advisor will be a professor within your major department. But I’m sure this will be covered in any initial information they send admitted transfers. I agree with UMTYMP – no need to worry beforehand.

I remembered in the application there is somewhere asking what department you want to register, is that right?

Yeah. But did we need to mention the major? e.g. 6.1, 6.2, 6.3?

Admissions to MIT for undergrads is major-agnostic. You declare your major whenever you want. Many declare their freshman year. I did not declare mine until the end of my sophomore year. Additionally, you can always change your major or add a second major right up til like a semester or year before graduating. YAY for flexibility!
