What’s my chance of getting in if I fail a prerequisite as a transfer into Public Health?
Is it a required Pre-req or a recommeded Pre-req? If you fail, do you plan to retake next semester?
Hi! I am a transfer student from San Diego and have completed all my classes here at a local community college. I might fail one of the pre-requisites for public health this semester, unfortunately. I have all my GEs done, and every other pre-requisite done. Do I still have a chance?
If you are accepted, you are required to notify the school of any D’s or F"s received after you submit your application. If you get the F prior to completing your supplemental grade update in January and since it is a major Pre-req, I think your chances are not very good but it will be up to SDSU admissions to make that decision.
You also have to remember that if accepted, your admission is provisional so you need to complete all courses with a C- or higher to keep your acceptance.
@Gumbymom has there been people in the past who have been accepted regardless of missing a prerequisite, but just had to retake it in the summer?
Missing a pre-req vs failing a pre-req are two different things. Yes, applicants have been accepted missing a pre-req but the circumstances may be that their school does not offer the class or due to scheduling issues they could not get the class. Failing the pre-req and retaking it next semester or the summer would be at the discretion of SDSU admissions. You need to contact them directly to see what options they can offer.
Hi @Gumbymom, what if I retake the course again next semester? I will update it on the supplemental application, but will it hurt my chances of getting in? I will still have all the course pre-requisites done by Fall 2019, I just have to retake a course.
Retaking the course next semester would definitely help your chances but only admissions can tell you if they will accept you in the Spring before the repeat grade is posted.
