so im transferring to UCD this fall and im just wondering if any of you transfers are going to sign up for residence halls or are you all trying to avoid them?
im 19 and to be honest i wouldnt mind living with freshman but just wondering if any of you have and how it was?
the main reason i wanna live in the halls is because i wanna make sure i have a good "college experience" and feel that will help to meet lots of people :)
what are the pros and cons??

I visited a friend at SJSU a few years ago and her friend across the hall (who was a freshman) had a 34 year old roommate haha.

My wife and I are looking to purchase a home in Sacramento. You couldn’t pay me enough to live in a dorm with underclassmen at this point, and I’m only 26.

I’m 19 too, and I don’t know if I’d want to be rooming with Freshman. The flip side (rooming with someone older than me) I don’t think would be so bad though. I’ve made a lot of good friends in my Physics and Chemistry classes who I thought were only a year or two older than me, but turned out being in their late 20s, surprisingly.

The cutoff date would most definitely be 20-21. If you’re turning 21 while living in the dorms, not only are all the freshman going to hassle you for booze, you’re going to feel insanely old and not have anyone to go to clubs or bars with, which is where the scene generally shifts for those of alcohol consumption age. If you’re not turning 21 this upcoming school year, it’s a viable option, though you’ll definitely still notice a lot of immaturity.

“you’re going to feel insanely old and not have anyone to go to clubs or bars with, which is where the scene generally shifts for those of alcohol consumption age”

Most of us drink behind closed doors with “Ain’t no Sunshine” on loop. BUT MAYBE THAT’S JUST ME.

I really don’t want to dorm with the younger crowds. First of all, I know they’re gonna bug me to buy them booze all the time. Which is fine sometimes, but I easily get annoyed and… Well, yea…

There are a few 18 year olds in my classes and I honestly want to strangle all of them. Most of them are very annoying. I really do not want to dorm with any teenagers or anyone under 21. I want to room with someone that I can go to pubs with… Takes out all the fun to be with “kids” IMHO.

No, it’s not Aint no Sunshine, it’s Crazy by Patsy Cline ;)

Also: I’m 24 and pretty much everyone I know thinks I’m 20. and I don’t really drink… so it wouldn’t matter XD

OTOH, I don’t wanna share a room :>

I’m currently 19 (20 in the fall) and I’m not a drinker so I can’t be begged for purchases :D

I don’t really want to room with freshmen but I think it’s better than rooming with older people who have been there (same-age transfers being another story) because they will have their cliques and friends already. I also want the college experience as much as I can get it!

Sharing a room/bathroom scares me like crazy but I’ll live >>

34? Are they hot? I have a thing for older men haha.

I don’t wanna share a bathroom with someone that pees on the toilet/floor. Nuff said! (Especially if they don’t clean up!)

Usually the housing offered to you is in a place where everyone else is also new - transfer housing is likely only going to have new transfer students, and the other housing very likely has freshmen that… also haven’t established strong social networks.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it, from what I’ve heard from my friends that DID transfer, they had no issues at all with social networking at their respective UCs.

yeah well im on the same page as aninstance im gonna be turning 20 during the school year so id be closer in age to the freshman and wouldnt wanna be in a situation where im rooming with older transfers that can all go to the bars while i cant like munaluna said
ahhhh
well we’ll see where they place me
either way im gonna make the best experience out of it

living alone ftw

I’m going to dorm with people my age (I’m 20 and going to be 21 this summer).I don;t want the hassel of freshmen asking me for booze.

i’d prefer to live with people closer in age as well. i’m 20 right now

As long as they have good hygiene and aren’t stupid with drinking. I don’t think it’s too much to ask, but I want a roommate who:
- Showers daily
- Doesn’t play videogames or watch TV well into the morning.
- Knows how hit inside the toilet bowl while taking a leak.
- Knows how to drink - knows their limits and won’t be vomiting on my floor.
- No major personality disorders

I’m pretty sure you’ll be living with transfers unless you want to live in Emerson hall where there’s a chance some freshmen will dorm with you.

I wouldn’t mind staying with freshmen, so long as they don’t blare crappy music at 12am in the morning. Even though I’m 21, I don’t really enjoy the idea of drinking, so they can’t really nag me for booze.

@Kevin
I can be your roommate!

===================

Honestly I don’t want to have freshmen roommates, but I don’t want 25+ yr olds either!

I just turned 20 too,and I’d prefer to live with people who are 20-22.
