Ok so if you've seen any of my past posts you probably just think I come on here to yell lol. Well, I have a question for all of you transferring to Reed for admission to the class of 12 or 13 in the Fall of 2009, hookay? Have you heard back from Reed yet? I think they said they would start sending out answers around mid-May but I'm getting anxious and really want to know! So if you have been accepted, wait-listed, rejected...what have you, please let me know. Post it up here with your reaction and where you will be attending school if it isn't Reed. GOOD DAY! HA HA HA! Lol :D

You scared the $#!T out of me just now. I thought you were going to say that you had received a decision. Oh well.

I doubt transfer decisions will be mailed until at least May 15th, but we can hope for earlier right?

Next time, try not to give us all heart attacks, haha (yikes). I’ll let everyone know when I get a decision from Reed, but being in Indiana it will likely be after most of the West Coast people.

It’s too bad no matter what we post we can’t get time to move any faster!

I doubt we’ll hear anything for at least two weeks… the suspense is almost as it was waiting for the election!

By the way, did you all have an interview with a representative? Mine seemed to go very well, but I can’t tell how much it affects things.

I had an interview at Reed when I visited in February. It went very well, even better than most of my interviews the first time I applied to college, but somehow I doubt it will have much weight in the admissions process.

Oops sorry! I didn’t mean to startle you people lol. I have not even visited Reed yet, so no I have not had an interview. The only reason I have yet to go there is because I’m 40 hours away and I can’t afford to visit until I actually go there…which I hopefully will. ;)

Carry on…

slowly disappears into a thicket

^^ Reed’s Common Data Set says interview is important!

I’ve been accepted. I hugged the nearest person to me, lol. This was in the library, so i couldn’t be like, “Sweet, holy ****in’ jesus, I"m going to Portland” or anything provocative like that. But yeah, don’t get scared. I found out because of extenuating circumstances due to having to make a decision about another college by May 1st, and not wanting to sacrifice such a sweet deal if I wouldn’t make it to Reed. The only thing I don’t know right now is what my finaid will look like. Wish me luck, though.

If you get accepted, we should meet up in Portland or something. A small community of transfers is never bad.

I had an interview. I think it helped in my decision, honestly.

Congratulation acherin! :)

Acherin did you just call the admissions office and ask for your decision after explaining your circumstances? I also have to put down a deposit on another college by May 1, but I was just going to do it anyway because it wasn’t a huge amount, but having a decision from Reed would certainly help. Please let me know.

I got an e-mail in my inbox tonight hinting that I was accepted! The message was from the Dean of Admission, Paul Marthers, and it linked to a flash video to welcome incoming students. I thought sure that I would have to wait until mid-May to receive a decision by snail mail.

Let us know if any of you received this e-mail. I’m truly shocked right now.

Yesterday I got an email too, I’ve been acepted!!, I’m an international transfer =), Do you think they sent the packet already?

I got the e-mail as well. And yeah, that’s what I did, Every, but it seems you don’t need to do that now. Congrats, fellow Reedies. :)

They mailed our letters of acceptance and finaid info Friday. We should get them around Monday or Tuesday.

Good idea acherin. It would help a great deal for us to get to know each other. For everyone’s information, the 2009 Reed Orientation site is up, and they have a page just for transfer students: [Orientation 2009](<a href=“New Students - Admission & Aid - Reed College”>New Students - Admission & Aid - Reed College) .

I received the letter, and it had confetti in it. lol. And the finaid, if anyone was worried, is super generous.

Are you guys going to take Hum 110? We don’t have to. What do you guys think?

arrrg im waitlisted… as much as i want to go to reed, i really just want to get into one of my transfer schools (swarthmore, carleton or pomona). if i get into one, the decision is made for me. all it means is i dont have to fret about which one. we’ll see if i get in though. even if i get in everywhere (with good fin aid) reed will be on top (although maybe swarthmore).

EDIT: i was talking to one of my chem TAs who went to reed (and wrote a letter of rec) and he said that we (transfers) may not be allowed to take hum 110- we may have to hum 210 or 220 or something. hum 110 is suppose to be open to frosh only, although it might be different rules for transfers.

Hmmm. That’s strange, because from what I’ve read, there’s nothing that says explicitly we can’t take 110. Good luck with your schools. Hopefully Reed wants you with good finaid.

Well, I got the packet and credit evaluation from Reed. Unfortunately it brought me mixed feelings.

The good news is that I was able to transfer all of my credits, and in addition to my AP credits I should have sophomore standing, despite not finishing my freshman year at my last college.

The bad news is that despite my pleas, Reed only allowed me to borrow $5500/year in federal loans. That is a pittance. I knew I wouldn’t be eligible for any grant money because of my parents’ income, but UC Davis offered me $19,000/year in federal loans with the same FAFSA. I can still attend Reed, but with an estimated cost of $52,000 for the 2009-10 year, this will place a significant burden on my family, as we have attempted unsuccessfully to sell our house and in the meantime are paying two mortgages and my older brother’s tuition. $5500 hardly pays for the cost of boarding fees.

Question to all you transfers, do you think I should appeal my financial aid decision in order to secure more loan money, or is it not worth the effort? Let me know what you think.
