Hey guys, can you post your stats and info if you're transferring? also, if you got in or not? I want to get an idea of what's getting accepted / denied before I apply. Just got rejected from my top choice so I'm thinking of applying here as a backup. Thanks.

There is a wide range for students getting accepted for transfer, and as much as you might be tempted to think SCU’s line of looking at the “whole student” is just being nice, it really seems to be the case.

I know someone with a 3.9 transfer gpa and good recommendations but with normal/run of the mill ECs who was rejected. Letters & Science.

I know someone with a 3.25 transfer gpa and a kajilllion passionate ECs (all volunteer activities) who was accepted. Letters & Science.

I know another 3.3 transfer gpa student, English second language (Spanish is first), solid to very strong ECs (all volunteer activities) who was accepted. Letters & Science.

I really think any transfer student with a gpa between 3.3 - 4.0 has a fair shot at getting in. I think the tipping points are the ECs and personal statement with the letters of recommendations as a strong back-up/confirmation of the former.

Read the mission statement of SCU. Is that you? Are you interested in your education meaning something for other people out in the larger world? Do your ECs already point in that direction? That is what you need to contemplate.

Wow, I’m surprised the rejection of that 3.9. I had, I think, a 3.7 my freshman year, limited ECs, a bad high school GPA and an ACT score of 29 and was accepted to the business school.

Perhaps they consider if you are transferring from a community college versus another four year institution.

At most schools, the criteria for transferring in is substantially less. The biggest factor for this is probably that transfer admits are not counted towards USNWR ratings.

I would not look to “community college vs 4year college” as the comparison. The 3 real examples I gave were ALL community college students.

I honestly think that after transfer students have about a 3.3+, that they are all looked at holistically at who they are, what they will bring to the campus. If a student has a 3.3 transfer GPA, they can obviously manage the work at SCU… so SCU gets to then look at the person.

It is a mistake to think that SCU ranks the transfer applications by GPA and then takes the top half of the GPA pool–they are looking at the students as more than a number.

Congrats on the Business school acceptance, I believe that is one of the more competitive areas at SCU!

Did you receive your acceptance letter to the business school at SCU, today?

Have any other transfers heard back regarding Fall 2012?

I haven’t heard back yet. I turned my application in, early February. I called the admissions office to see if I would hear back soon and they told me that they are only allowed to admit a very limited amount of people for the time being because they do not know how much space they will have for transfers. The school is waiting on the notifications of whether or not current students are coming back for the fall quarter. After they receive an exact number of who is coming back, they will roll out all of the transfer acceptance letters. I’m really anxious and have been checking the portal multiple times a day. Wish it didn’t take so long =/

Thanks for letting me know. I have been anxiously waiting as well. They said that we would for sure hear back before April 15. Think that is still going to happen? Do you know the date of when every current student has to confirm if they will come back the Fall Quarter?

On the SCU website, it says rolling admission February-April. I’m not sure if that means we will hear back before the 15th or before the end of the month. The very last date that transfer students can turn in their application is April 15th. Therefore, I believe we would be notified before the end of the month. From old posts in the forums, I saw that they notified students in May. Most likely, we will all hear back sometime in April though. Otherwise, I’m sure they would get a lot of complaints. Hopefully it is sometime soon!
As for the current student confirmation date, I’m not sure when that date is. I spoke to some of my friends at SCU and they weren’t sure when it was due by. Still working on figuring it out! I’ll let you know if I find out though.

Hmmm, I never heard that a student has to confirm to come back for next year. Is there really such a thing? I thought the only indicator is to register classes for fall quarter. I just check their calendar, the registration period is mid-May.

Yes, you have to confirm that you are coming back next year.

^ DD is a current sophomore. Just called her she said she didn’t receive any info that she needs to confirm. Do you mean on-campus dorm? That’s the only thing I know needs to confirm. But many will move out from dorm to off-campus housing. So that’s not accurate at all.

I’m not quite sure what the admissions office meant when they said that. I’m guessing they use some sort of way to confirm that students are coming back through a deposit, or maybe through housing? Not exactly sure.
