transfers

can someone please help me answere these questions about notre dame application for transfers.
1.what are its acceptance rate? do i have a shot if applied with good stats?
2. if i applied as a junior/2yrs in collge will they require SATs? highschool grades?
3. any other requirments i would need?

thx to all who respond

The acceptance rate is now about 35% if I am not mistaken, so it is still a bit higher than the overall acceptance rate (but not as high as EA). Pretty much anyone can have a good shot if they apply with the right classes and a good GPA (over 3.5). See www.nd.edu/~mnadorff/transfer

I am almost positive they still want to see those but they play a very small role if you are that far out of HS

getting the proper classes is essential at ND and it is one of those things that ND does differently than pretty much everywhere else.

If you have any other questions feel free to touch. I myself am a transfer and there are a few other transfers on this board so feel free!

I was a transfer student at Notre Dame (class of '06).

What exactly do you mean by "good stats"? In transferring, you'll find that all those stats you accumulated over high school will not matter very much at all compared to trying to get in as a freshman. They will want to make sure your SAT scores are at least decent (+600 in both scores) and that you did reasonably well in high school, but that's about it. Nothing I did in high school came up in the interview I had in transferring.

What does matter is what you've done in the college you're at now. Just like high school, you need to have extracurriculars/awards (a bit harder to obtain in college, but certainly possible)/recommendations. As I recall, I needed one recommendation for my application.

As far as acceptance rates goes, it completely depends on what department you're applying to. Some just don't have the seats availiable, no matter how good you are. Others have no problem taking people in (like chemical engineering; my department).

If it helps to give you an idea, here were my stats (not trying to subtly 'brag' here):

Highschool GPA: 11.555/12.000 (that's right, no weighted crap here!)
Highschool Rank: 4/176
SAT I (old): 660 V, 620 M
College GPA (Tri-State University): 4.000 (after two years of ~16 hours a semester)

This is part of the application, but yet again it takes a backset to your previous college GPA. Really, a big factor in transferring is whether or not the classes you took will transfer. Before I was approved, I had to sit down with the department chair and argue all of my classes in order to convince him that I had enough to qualify as a junior. You need to know and remeber exactly what you did in all of your classes; the name of a class means nothing.

As I recall you need at least 30 credit hours to transfer over, but that may have changed and didn't apply to me anyway (I transferred in as a junior, and had a lot more than that). You'll need a letter from the dean (as I recall) detailing that you had no problems discipline-wise. Finally, there is one essay, but it's pretty easy (something like "Why do you feel Notre Dame would be a good fit for you?"). Nothing clever to write about there really.

Good luck if you decide to transfer. The only other advice I can give you is that if you do submit an application, be sure to check up on it after a few months.
