Transfers

Just for curiosity's sake, are there any transfers for the 08' Fall Semester at LMU that are on these boards? I think I'm the only one.

hey there im a freshman at LMU right now, a natural science major, and I have a friend who is waiting to hear back for transfer as well. have you heard anything?

Not since applying a few weeks back. The most recent time I called admissions the woman on the phone told me that they were shipping all rejections and acceptances out on Friday (4th) or Monday (7th).

Haha my girlfriends a freshman there too, and is an accounting major.

weird yeah my girlfriend just called today and they told her it could be anywhere from 4-6 weeks until she heard. keep me posted.

Ok so I just called again today, and I spoke to the same guy I talked to before. Apparently, all of the freshman applications are being finished today, and they are starting on transfer applications all of this week and expect to be finished by next week.

Status of my app. is "Complete" so if they tell you that it means that they have received all of your documents and are going to review it.

Any transfers hear anything yet??

Still nothing...we were supposed to hear something by the end of last week. I'm going to call tomorrow if nothing comes today.

Prezpreston,

You should call. Today.

Last week we called, and they have no idea why son's application was never given a decision for. Still waiting for financial aid, too.

littlegreenmom,

did anything ever come out of that? what was the final decision?

Joekster,

He got in. By now, though, he has committed elsewhere. The admissions counselor was nice - but had no idea what happened to his file. It sounds like from the first analysis during the fall, it was set aside and then no action was ever taken on it, until we called and asked when, and if, there would be a decision. Kind of disorganized.

Several other students from high school who are concurrently enrolled (as high school students taking one class at LMU) also had glitches in their admissions decisions. I don't know why.

Yeah to be honest I'm not very impressed with LMU admissions at all. I'm just glad that I had to deal with it last year and not this year. Nevertheless congratulations on your son committing somewhere.

This whole admissions fiasco has to make you wonder about the school in general. It has cast a bad shadow.

Joekster,

Have you enjoyed this year at LMU? I think you said you were a science major. Have you taken many classes in your major, yet? What are the best - and worst - aspects of the campus for those thinking about it for next year, and those deciding about which offer to take?

Honestly, I have had a great year at LMU. In the beginning of the year I was a little unsure about how I felt about LMU as I thought that I wanted a bigger school with more sports. But as I got more comfortable in my surroundings I realized that I didn't want to be anywhere else. I have developed great friendships that hopefully will last me for a lifetime at LMU and i think that if I was in any bigger of a situation I wouldn't have had the same opportunity. For me the small setting was a perfect fit and i didn't expect it at all.

I have taken a few classes for my major, albeit they are general classes they are still the core ones for my major (general bio, general chem, and the labs for both). But as far as my classes I really have noticed how class size affects how well you do. I shadowed my friend at USC and was amazed to see how many people were in a class, and with that many people its just hard to focus.

I suppose if i had to pick out a bad thing about the campus is that it does get the reputation for being a little "dull" on the weekends. This isn't because no one is doing anything, its because people are doing things off campus. Dont worry though there are plenty of partying/other events that take place on campus.

my final recommendation is to come to campus (if possible) again and just walk around during the day while all the students are out. When you are walking around you'll be able to figure out whether or not you could see yourself here.

if i can help anymore let me know, but really looking back LMU has exceeded my expectations and I am happy to say that i go there.

Phew, my friend just got his reply back. Denied, unfortunately it was because he applied as a Business major and hadn't taken the appropriate level of math. He could have been spared that if he had applied as a different major! I feel bad for him....

I called today and I spoke with another gentlemen who informed me that they were looking at my application. It was classified as "Under Review" but again, thats what they told me before and the man before implied that it could be evaluated at any time. This guy seemed to say different though.

I'll update when I find out :/

so your friend was a transfer also?

Yes, but the only reason he was rejected was because he failed to take Math 240, which was a prereq. for International Business. He should have applied as a different major, since I applied as a Poli. Sci. major I don't have to have anything done before I apply.

Girlfriend just heard back via mail today. Accepted. Good luck to everyone, prez preston i'm pullin for ya.

^^ where was she transferring from....what level of transfer was she?(soph. junior)

also what are her stats/major??

Thanks

Thanks joekster...heres hoping I get in....congrats to your gf!
