transfers?

I'm seriously considering transferring into Smith either next year or the year after (as a sophomore or a junior). I applied and was accepted to Smith as a freshman--it was my first choice, but I ended up being unable to attend for financial reasons. (It would have been possible, with loans, but my parents were unwilling to pay their piece of Smith's tuition when I had been accepted at other good schools with more scholarship/fin. aid money). However, I've been talking to them and they say they may be willing to reconsider this, since I am very unhappy at my current school.

What I'm wondering, is, first off, are you likely to be accepted as a transfer having been accepted as a freshman (assuming your college record is good, which it is)? and then, do transfers generally fit easily into the Smith community? are they as involved as other students in various activities, or is it difficult to find a place to "belong" coming in as a sophomore or junior? if anyone is or knows a transfer student and has any insight, it would be really appreciated!

The transfers I know are very happy with their decision. They fit in as easily as freshmen do, probably because almost all Smithies live on campus.

I transferred into Smith this semester and so far it's been a great experience. Of course it's a big change - it's kind of like being a first year all over again - but when you get here the house community really makes it easy to adjust and there's no problem getting involved in activities - I'm in Glee Club and work for the Sophian. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask!
