Where are you guys?

Hey! I transferred to Goucher last year as a sophomore from Hobart & William Smith Colleges. 1) I LOVE GOUCHER it was the best decision I could have made. 2) Let me know if you have any questions about transferring or Goucher in general!! Enjoy your summer :)

Why did you end up transferring and what attracted you to Goucher?

Hobart was 6.5 hours from my home and Goucher is only about 1 on a good traffic day. I wasn’t so keen on being that far from home and got extremely homesick and miserable in NY. At Goucher, it’s much easier to get home or for my family to come visit, but I def don’t go home every weekend! I love staying at school now that I have that comfort of being closer. Actually at this point, a year later, I’m thinking about staying at school next summer which is a big change for me!
Also, I was very interested in studying abroad but I figured that if I couldn’t stay in NY for more than a semester, being in a different country in another semester would be unwise. Hobart was limited and only had semester options, whereas Goucher has a whole bunch of 3 week programs. I went to France this summer on an ICA (Intensive Course Abroad) for 3 weeks and it was perfect for me- a really great experience!
The type of people at Hobart were the basically the ones from high school that I avoided or they were the ones that picked on everyone and thought they were better. (That’s a grand generalization but when the majority acts like that, it’s hard to find the people that don’t…) After visiting Goucher, I could an extreme difference- Goucher students are very relaxed and absolutely the most accepting group of people I’ve ever met. Everyone is one of those “unique” kids, so each individual person and his specific talents and quirks are appreciated by everyone else. To me, this was the type of world I wanted to live in, so that really swayed my decision.
Goucher’s campus is gorgeous and secluded, and I definitely did not want to be in the heart of a city. We have a beautiful forest surrounding campus with trails and such. However, right outside is Towson! I’ve learned to love the convenience of the city right out our doors, but I still don’t have to be stuck in the busy atmosphere of it, or cross any streets to get to class. Also, Baltimore is only 20 minutes away and so easy to get to with the college transportation system provided for the students (FREE!).
In the end, it was the best choice I could have made and I absolutely can’t wait to go back in the Fall!!
Let me know if have other questions :)
