Hi! I’m currently a transgender student (male to female) attending the State University of New York at Oswego (major in Zoology and Studio Arts) looking to transfer to a different institution so I can begin the bulk of my transition while residing in a comfortable place where I’ll be able to concentrate on my studies. So far on my list, I have NYU, UVM, USF(university of san francisco), and Kent State. But will my institution be able to carry over credits to USF? I’m really scared that I’m going to have to take classes like general chemistry, Bio, and Pre Calc all over again. Does anyone else have experience with transferring from the East Coast to the West Coat? Please let me know! Additionally, does anyone know about the communities at the schools I’ve chosen? As I said before, I want to feel safe wherever I go to school.
Each college and university determines for itself which courses will and won’t transfer. Usually transfer applicants receive an estimated list of transferred credits shortly after they are accepted. However, it isn’t likely that you will be given the full evaluation until you have actually enrolled and begun classes.
You need to contact each of the places on your list, and ask how they handle this.
The reason I ask is because upon looking on each of the sites most of them have transfer policies or even web tools to search if my credits will transfer or not. But I’m guessing my best bet will be to contact the schools, thank you!
