Transition

Any students from Seattle? I'm having a hard time choosing between UW and Marquette (one has rowing, one has the Pre-Dental Scholars program) because of a few things (no particular order):

1) I row quite well, but it's not my life
2) My family, but I like an adventure (I'm pretty independent)
3) The city- the truth is, Milwaukee is no Seattle
4) I was admitted into the Pre-Dental Scholars- assuming I keep my grades up, I don't have to struggle with dental admissions later

I have toured both schools and I really enjoyed Marquette, especially since it's a larger Catholic school with a dental school on campus. I also interviewed/got a tour with the dental school and I was stunned by the program, especially since it's clinical. Can anyone help me make a choice?

Hey philtherower,

I am also from Seattle and I recently committed to Marquette. I see that your post is from a couple of weeks ago so I realize that you have made a decision between then and now… but in case you haven’t here are some things that you may want to consider:

1) I liked Marquette over UW because I felt that there was more of a community feeling. I felt that UW regarded their students as more of numbers rather than actual people.

2) The Pre-dental program at Marquette could be immensely beneficial to your dental education and expedite the process for you to get into the dental field.

3) If you have lived in Seattle or the Northwest for your entire life, then Milwaukee would be a new experience for you. I have been told by a couple people that if you are interested in trying to live somewhere new then college is a perfect opportunity to do so.

4) Even though Marquette does not have a rowing team, they are close to Lake Michigan. I am sure that there are recreational rowing teams or clubs that you could get involved with if this is a deciding factor.
