I took a practice SSAT today... did OK, I think. The thing is, the book only gives you number scores, not percentiles, which everyone seems to go by. I really want to know around which percentile scores I got. Here's the numbers: 350 verbal, 343 math, 340 reading. Thanks in advance!

Since the highest numerical score on any subset is 350, and assuming you are in grade 8 this sort of result would put you probably in the 97-98 percentile overall if memory serves me right.

Sonja, what schools are you applying to?

I'm not all the way sure, but Exeter, Deerfield, Hotchkiss, Choate, Peddie, possibly Emma Willard and Chatham Hall.

What about Andover and SPS? :)

I sent you a PM.

Got your PM, check your mailbox.

Andover didn't really appeal to me in the way those schools did, and SPS doesn't have a swimming team. I could see myself at any of my schools, but not those two.

Yeah, that's why I'm hesitant to apply to St. Paul's. How can they not have a swimming team?!

Sonja, if you are a top type swimmer, look at Peddie. They have a top swimming program. Keep in mind that smaller schools can't compete in all sports becasue of numbers. So schools make choices at to what sports they will compete in.

JK, I'll answer you IM soon, I'm still thinking about your question.

Sonja, My second d is looking at both chatham hall and emma. I perosonally liked Chatham hall, esp if your'e into horses. She likes emma well enough to be her first choice at this time. good luck

Shame about the kid who drowned in the nice new pool at SPS.

Last summer my son took a practice SSAT test in the book published by the SSAT organization. We did not know how to interpret the score, so I emailed them. A kind person let us know what the % scores would be against other SSAT takers. You will probbly have to let them know which grade you are in and whether you are a boy or a girl. You might have to tell them which test it was. Just let the SSAT people know that you understand that it is only an estimate. BTW, SSAT scores are normed against the 2 previous years of test takers (if I remember this correctly). As a result, the percentages can change over time. Also, I think starting last year, they started scaling the SSAT to the SAT. So it is no longer a max of 320 but rather 800 per test.

sorry -- I meant to say top score of 350. By the way, a 350 is 99%.

Don't they report it to the tenth?

No, they are not reported to the tenths. At least last year, that was not how they did it.

What about 2003? Google didn't help me very much just now, so I don't expect anyone to know exactly, but I swore that mine (and those of my friends etc) were reported to the tenth. Maybe I'm just crazy.

I only know about last year. Perhaps someone else might remember 2003.

Contacted SSAT people for a quick answer, but didn't phone them, so it might e a day or so before they get back to me. Then we will know the truth!

Wow, they were curt about it... feh. Looks like I'm just crazy:
"SSAT Percentiles are and have always been reported as an integer between 1 and 99."
