I am interested in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Transportation. My real interest is designing and creating new highway and road structures. Redesigning the intersections, the roads themselves, what would make them hold up longer in specific weather conditions. I am also very interested in designing new development transportation needs, such as how to access the new development, traffic flow, etc. I don't know anyone who works in this industry and am curious what degrees as an undergraduate I should be looking at applying for. Thanks

Civil engineering is definitely the right way to go for this goal.

This was my son’s interest also and he found the following schools had transportation labs and concentrations for transportation engineering (within the civil engineering major): University of Virginia, University of florida, University of Alabama. I think NC State also has a good offering.

Yeah, we definitely have a transportation emphasis option for the CE’s at NC State.
