I just got accepted by UCSC, and plan to visit the school before making any decisions. I will be in Los Angeles for my spring break, and would like to visit UCSC. What is the cheapest and fastest way to move from Los Angeles to Santa Cruz?
There are buses that go to San Jose from Los Angeles. I’ve never been on one, but I know that they are in fact a mode of transportation if people want to go from the Bay to LA. It takes longer than a car ride, from six hours in a car to more than ten hours in a bus. It’s probably one of the cheaper routes. From there, you’d have to find a way to Santa Cruz, which is about twenty minutes.
You could also take a plane which would be the most expensive way, but definitely the fastest. It’s less than an hour. You could find some deals if you start looking for tickets early. Again, it would be to San Jose, and you’d find a way to Santa Cruz.
If someone in your family has a license, I think renting a car and driving up to Santa Cruz is the best bet. By far the cheapest choice, and the car ride wouldn’t be as long as a bus ride.
I’m going to LA with my friends, and unfortunately none of us has a driving license. I checked the fares for the bus and they are affordable, but how do I get from San Jose to Santa Cruz? :-S
I believe you’ll need to take Bus 17 from the Amtrak station in San Jose. It should take you to Santa Cruz and you then take the city bus up to campus.
Btw, it’s not 20 minutes from San Jose. It’s more like 50 minutes if the traffic isn’t bad.
