Transportation from STL Airport to campus

Hi. What is the common method of transportation the students use to get to campus from STL airport? My D will be visiting this summer and should she take a taxi? If so is that safe and common? Thank you! :)

Most students take MetroLink, a light rail system servicing the metropolitan area. However, it’s not always so convenient, especially with luggage and being unfamiliar with the city. If paying the cab fare isn’t a problem, I’d say that’s probably her best bet.

Thanks!

I agree that for summer orientation or a visit taking a cab will be a lot easier. When my S went to orientation a couple of years ago, we told him he could take a cab but he took the MetroLink because he said “it was right there.” Once enrolled, the MetroLink is a great way to get to and from the airport.

For someone who isn’t familiar with the area, a taxi is probably easiest. Campus isn’t too far from the airport, so it won’t be too expensive.

The Metrolink is very convenient, and might be an option for the return to the airport.

I’ve found MetroLink to be much better simply because I don’t want to always spent $30 on a cab each time I have to travel back and forth from the airport. But that was after a year of familirizing myself with the city first.

The MetroLink is definitely cheaper, but if your daughter has luggage (also if she is arriving at night), then she should take a cab. I know WashU pays for your cab fare depending on what your visit is for. When I visited after I got accepted, they paid for my plane ticket and cab fare.

Just recently over the holiday’s Wash U offered a shuttle service to the airport which was really nice, convenient and inexpensive too.

My daughter and I just visited last month, one day before the ED deadline!! We took a Metro West cab. Our driver was Jamal. He was waiting at the airport when we landed and was early to pick us up to go back to the airport. It was $30 one way, which was about or a little less than others charged. Their number is 314-427-3456

Yes, Wash U does have a shuttle and there is information on the school site. I don’t know if it runs regularly or only at certain times of the year. My D used it at Thanksgiving break and it worked great. I recall the information required a bit of searching to find on the website.
