transportation from UCLA to UCI

I'm a current UCLA student, trying to figure out a way to visit my friend at UCI. I don't have a car or access to one and don't want to pay taxi fare.

Does anyone know a fairly quick and inexpensive way to get from one school to the other? I'm thinking bus, train, etc.

Thanks!

xposted in UCI forum

you'd have to take the train. you'd take a bus to union station, train stops in irvine, and bus to UCI. i don't know where the exact stop in Irvine is, but it definitely stops there. check out the Amtrak website and then figure out the bus routes from there. i've been told that it's about an hour, not including the buses.

there's a stop in santa ana(orange county) which isn't too far.

eh the irvine stop is closer to UCI than santa ana. by a lot.

not all amtrack trains stop in irvine... the irvine station is used most of the time for metrolink. i recommend checking their information out. metrolink may provide a free bus to uci from their irvine station... or a transfer of somekind

Here's their link: http://www.metrolinktrains.com/lines/schedules/

yeah i just checked it out. the amtrak surfliner route goes from union to irvine. but checking the schedules for when you're planning to go is clearly a good idea.

I'm starting a private taxi business.

Thanks everyone for the help!

This is what I ended up doing:

Walk to Wilshire/Westwood. #20 to Union Station
Amtrak to Santa Ana

59 South to Irvine campus

On the way back...

59 North to Santa Ana

Metroline to Union Station

21 straight back to Ackerman

lovelines,
Approximately how long did it take (1-way)?

I actually drive to UCI 2 or 3 days out of the week but I have to get up at 4Am to beat the 405 traffic :(

It took about 4 hours, but I didn't plan it that well, so I was waiting at the stations. On the way there, I waited at Union Station for forty five minutes because I missed the last metro and had to wait for Amtrak. =( If better planned, I think it'd be around 3 to 3.5 hours.

take the van pool...6 bucks one way...the one to irvine drops you in a place 5min. from UCI campus

hmm don't you have to pre-sign up for van pool or something?

Citan (or anyone else) - is there ever a van pool from UCLA to San Diego?

I don't think so...but check here:
