Transportation in the campus?

I'm a CS student who will attend UIUC in fall 2009, and I have a question.

I have been searching for housing options and as an engineering student I put ISR to no 1 already. However I'm worried about can not finding a room in there since I haven't filled my housing contract yet. So the other options are, Allen, Gregory, Peabody and PAR & FAR. I don't want to stay too far away from the Engineering Campus and I wonder if won't stay in ISR, will it be easy for me to reach the Eng. Campus everyday? How's transportation in UIUC?

Thanks for your help.

there are buses on campus that are free running on campus . They run every 4-5 mins during the daytime and every 15 mins in the night. It is quite effective and shouldn’t be too much of a problem. But as a freshman most of your classes will not be on the engineering campus. they will be closer to the main quad. You should be fine with any of those residence halls regarding transportation.

Allen will be the most difficult of those to reach the Engineering quad, since the busses running past there all go towards FAR/PAR, or towards the 6 Pack, before heading off to the Engineering Quad. Typically.

That being said, Allen is culturally an experience (you will meet tons of very interesting people there), and it’s directly next door to CRCE, if you like swimming, hot tubbing, or exercising. It’s also close to the main quad, and seeing as you are incoming, you’ll probably have a lot of gen eds to complete (as engineering generally has more than most of the other colleges).

FAR/PAR has excellent service via the 22 Illini to ISR, which borders the Eng. Quad. It will take a few more minutes to get there from the 6 Pack via the 21 Quad. Your decision though, both dorms offer totally different experiences… although really it doesn’t matter where you live because you’ll meet people through your classes and then do whatever you have to do to hang out.

Good luck!
