My son will be a freshman this year starting Summer Term and unfortunately will not be taking a car to UCF this year. So I was wondering how often does the Gold and Black shuttles make a run?
I see on the bus schedule that each stop has a number. Does the bus driver announce each "stop number" (at each stop) so the new students know which stop to get off at if they are unfamiliar with the campus? How do new students find their way around campus when it's so huge and they dont have a car?

Campus is very easy to get around by just walking. It’s a bit of a long walk from one side of the campus to another, but definitely doable. It took me less than a week to know where almost everything was because fortunately UCF’s campus is very well laid out. The black and gold lines (the campus shuttles) have route and stop information here: [University of Central Florida Parking and Transportation Services](http://parking.ucf.edu/OnCampusShuttle.html)
If you scroll down to the bottom of the page you can download the maps for each line. One runs clockwise (black route) and one runs counterclockwise (gold route).

Honestly, I’ve heard that the shuttles are unreliable and are often late. For what it’s worth I’ve never used them. I’ve been able to walk everywhere I needed to go, although it is nice to have the option of using a shuttle.

There are also lots of maps on campus to help you find where you’re going. I think once you know where the student union, Millican Hall, and Knights Plaza are it’s pretty easy to get to any of the areas nearby. All in all I’d say getting around is one of the last things I would be concerned about for a new student. If your son takes some time to learn the area and scope out the places he needs to go in advance, he should be fine.

Would driving your car around for classes be a hassle? In terms of finding a parking space…

^^^^
Yes, driving around to find a parking place is a hassle. If you live off campus, and you want to drive in for early classes … say before 9:30am, you shouldn’t have any difficulty finding a space. However, as the day goes on, finding parking becomes more difficult. Also, you need to be willing to walk. S, who’s off-campus this year, ocassionally drives into campus, and he says as long as you are willing to take a space, even if it’s not near where you want to be, you can find a space … but he’s willing to walk. Most of the time he takes the shuttle from The Estates into campus. First two years he lived in The Towers and we did a reserved spot, which was a TOTAL luxury, but made his life such a breeze knowing he’d have his space … plus we used his space sometimes when we wanted onto campus (like when my d graduated from her high school and ceremonies were at UCF … and we used his space …LOL).

so mizzxvii, when you find a parking spot you don’t move your car to drive it to your next class unless you want to spend a lot of time searching. You walk … or take a gold and black shuttle.

zebes

I’m in complete agreement with zebes on moving your car between classes. In addition, none of the classroom buildings are that far away from each other. Most of the long walks on campus come from walking to dorms or the gym. If you move your car to a different garage, chances are your walk will be just as far as it would have been from your first class, due to the layout of the garages on campus.

Does anyone know how long it takes the shuttle to come back around if you miss one?
