Anyone ever use the Megabus service out of Rochester? They have service to Syracuse, and NewYork City. The interesting thing about Megabus is that you can supposedly get a seat for as little as a few dollars. They also have service from Syracuse to Philly, so I am wondering if anyone has ever done Rochester to Syracuse to Philly to see how easy it is to transfer.

Amtrak is pretty pricey and long for the same route as all trains typically go through NYC.

Flying to smaller airports like Harrisburg from Rochester is expensive, and there are no more direct flights between smaller airports.

The buses are cheap and easily accessible. I’ve never actually made that trip, but I have picked up students from the bus station that have. The other option to consider is the number of students that we have from the Philly area - carpooling to places like Boston, NYC, and Philly is not uncommon.

Boston and NYC also have Betsy, who is a person. She runs a service called My Bus Home that rents buses for kids to use from various schools to Boston and NYC. I don’t know about Philly. She solicits interest for each break and then prices tickets. You can pay her by paypal.

She lives outside Boston and you can find links to her email address if you search for My Bus Home on the UR site. Pickup / dropoff in Boston is at 128 and the Pike. I think in NYC it’s one of the train stations, not Port Authority, but I’m not sure. Prices are certainly competitive but not bargain basement because these are the big luxury bus coaches.

We’ve used the service a couple of times, to and from school. They load up on the road behind the library and they stop at some rest stop upstate and then to drop off any kids going to western MA.

Megabus and all those bus services work great. My oldest and many of her friends would go into NYC from Boston fairly often using anything from Fung Wah on up. I think more than Megabus runs to Rochester.
