There is a shuttle (fee based) that goes to Atlanta airport. I am not sure about bus/train transportation. I do know that Auburn has a full week for Thanksgiving unlike a lot of schools. They do not have a fall break.

Thanks for the info about no fall break. Worried about son being locked out of dorms for both a fall break and Thanksgiving. Good to know there’s a whole week for Thanksgiving. Worth driving to pick him up then. Found something called Tiger Taxi on another site. Flat rate to Birmingham and Atlanta, I assume the airports. Pretty steep, but will work in a pinch. Hopefully the shuttle would be cheaper. Does the shuttle only run during the holidays?

Since there is a whole week for Thanksgiving, do the kids get out later for Christmas? Let’s hope!

Do kids post rides offered/looking for anyplace?

Unfortunatly the winter break comes quickly after Thanksgiving. They get out at the end of this week and are out for a full month. I would bet that there is a board where people post “share” ride information.

If he needs to go to ATL airport, he can take the shuttle bus, Express85, which has a website that allows you to make reservation. One of the pickup/drop-off stops is at the AU & Dixon Conference Center, right across the road from the library. He can also take Greyhound to LA but that is a very tiring journey. If he is a good driver, he can easily drive taking I85, I65, then I10, etc. I used to do that years ago.

Might rather take a shuttle to Birmingham, as we can get a cheap flight via Southwest from Birmingham to New Orleans. Son does not like driving. I know, how did I get so lucky! In fact, we are trying to avoid colleges that would require him to have a car, ie, no public transportation. This is his idea. As we have been very tired driving to college visits, can imagine how these poor kids must feel after pulling all nighters for exams, and then getting kicked out of their dorms and having to face at least six hour drive home. It’s a wonder more kids aren’t killed on the highway falling asleep at the wheel.
