Transportation to MIA for Spring Break?

Just found out UM does not provide airport shuttles for spring break (only Thanksgiving and Winter breaks). Does anyone have reliable taxi or car services that you've used to transport from Coral Gables campus to MIA - or is there a way to take the Metro north and transfer to another train into MIA?

I had been kind of assuming there would be shuttles - but perhaps there are so many who say on campus next week, that they don't feel the volume is worth it.....

Any and all suggestions welcomed!

If you look here [Miami International Airport :: Shuttles & Taxi Information :: Miami-Dade County](http://www.miami-airport.com/hotel_shuttles.asp) , you can scroll down to the Coral Gables section and see options to UM. If my S couldn’t get a ride from a friend, he was often able to share a cab with another student. He has used the shuttle but it can take longer if it needs to make other stops. Enjoy having her home!

When my son goes to MIA he takes a cab. It costs about $20. He also posts on facebook boards to try to coordinate with others heading there around the same time and has been successful at finding riders to split the cost. When he goes to FLL he uses the GO shuttle which costs about $35. The train does not currently run to MIA-riders have to switch somewhere to a bus to get to the airport. I understand that by next year there will be direct access by train which will be great for UM students. http://www.miami-airport.com/cip_miami_central_station.asp</a><br>
Enjoy your break with your children. I am so happy to see my son soon.

Thanks! Looks like a shared van from “American Shuttle” runs $22 + tip to and from UM campus - that seems pretty reasonable. Did your S ever use that particular company?

Thanks also to ClassOf15Parent for that interesting link about the rail expansion. I had heard the cab ride was closer to $40 - which seemed excessive for a <7 mile trip to MIA. I’ve tried to encourage her to look around for ride sharing, but so far no luck. Maybe our offspring could share rides in the future?
Next year she’ll have a car and will probably drive herself to MIA and just pay a weeks worth of parking - which is a lot more than 2 cab rides - oh well!

Zinc- if we get really lucky with the Singer/Stamps perhaps our girls can coordinate their flights and share the parking cost or the car fare : )

It’s a deal!

Spoke with DS. He used Yellow Cab 305-444-4444. He paid between $20-25 each ride plus tip. I found this guide which shows estimated costs for taxi rides in the Miami area: http://www.taxifarefinder.com/main.php?city=Miami</a>
Students post for shared rides on FB “Welcome to Miami 2015-PARTY TIME”.

Excellent! I will share this with my DD.

I’m sure this is late, but I took a city bus straight to the airport. Just google map it and set it to public transportation.

Where do you get on the city bus - right on US1 across from the campus? And, about how long did it take to get to MIA?
Thanks,

You can catch it right in front of the metro and it takes about an hour to get there. I usually take the metro to douglas road then take the bus from there. $2 there, $2 back. But if you have a ton of luggage it can be a hassle.

The bus I caught was 51. I’d say it took about 40 minutes. It only runs on weekdays, but it came up Red Road, which is right next to the University. On the way back I took a bus to Douglas station and took the metrorail back.
