I actually live in Bergen County, New Jersey. However, I was wondering if one doesn't have a car, how do students get home? What is the best transportation system to New York, and about how long does it take? Thanks

Check this site for a bus service between Ithaca and New York City and other points in New York and New Jersey.

Cornell U and Ithaca College share many resources...

From Cornell University's website...

The greyhound (shortline) is fine. It takes about 5 hours. Its usually $30 if you have a student advantage card. The greyhound station is right in town (youd need to get a ride or take the bus). There may be other bus options. There are usually flyers around campus & in the paper for bus to nyc & LI, especially before breaks. Getting a ride from someone else is always best though, and usually not that hard to do.
Also the Cornell ride board is great. I've taken cornell students to philly plenty of times.
