Anyone know the fastest and cheapest way to RIT? I'm coming from NYC.

Nothing is fast - cheapest is probably Megabus – but then you’ll have to walk over to the public bus to campus or take a $20+cab ride. They used to go to the RIT Inn which was very convenient but they don’t anymore. We stopped using them when my daughter had to wait over an hour for a late bus coming home and then over 2 hours in the city to go back - with very little in the way of support or info from the company.

Since then we’ve been booking amtrak so is considerably pricier but runs on time. There is also getting to/from to the train station.

Fastest by far would be flying… But most expensive.

Amtrak seems the slowest out of all I’ve looked so far. So mega bus is cheap but not convenient? I was actually looking forward to that. The Megabus takes you to this place not far from other bus stations in Rochester… You can still call the RIT cab service from there right?

US Air runs flights from LaGuardia to Roc airport, which is very close to RIT. Flight is no more than 1 hr. We used their nonstops from Boston to Roc for the 4 yrs D was at UR–cost about $100 each way, roughly. More $ than bus or train, but gets there in 1 hr.

Bus or train is the same amount of convenience but train is more reliable - and you can move around and there is food on the train. The plane takes the least amount of time but don’t forget to factor in transit to/from airports and that hassle. My daughter is not a fan of flying.

you are better getting an on campus $$ or nearby off campus apartment <$$. I commuted from Buffalo NY took 1.2 hours to get there approx. Check your local community paper at any gas station for apartment to rent. Wish you well. I graduated with honors and I found it to be a great school with rewarding benefits. Great Div I hockey and other sports. Nice campus and growing with new housing in the back, Nice new RIT village on campus. I85 to the 390 is best if driving from NYC my opinion!

I think whichever transportation I decide to take, I still need to call the RIT cab. I’ll look up the amtrek again. Last time I checked, it takes around more than 7 hours than something like bus which is like 6 hours…

No I mean like I’m just visiting their open house.

Does anyone know if the train provide free food? or do people bring snacks or food on the train on the way to far places?

The type of Amtrak train you would be on will have food for sale.
