Transportation to Walla Walla from LA

For other parents of Whitties, we just discovered that Allegiant Air flies nonstop from LA to Pasco (a 1 hr. 20 minute Greyhound ride from Walla Walla). They have very limited flight days and times, but some days are only $19.99 one way! And the fact that it is a nonstop flight (2 hours and 20 minutes) also makes it a very nice option when the schedule works.

I think you can also get the Grapevine (local bus shuttle) from Pasco to campus several times a day. It is great to have this direct option from LA.

Wow! This would be perfect! Does anyone have experience using the airline? It seems too good to be true…

I just looked it up. Los Angeles to Pasco on an October weekend is $35.99 one way, + fees and tax which makes it about $45. I’m so jealous! We live in the Bay Area and don’t have anything like it.

No experience yet, but we got D a roundtrip ticket for Thanksgiving on this airline. They get you in little ways–for instance, your seat also costs you (10.99 or 13.99, depending on location), and even checking 1 bag costs, but she’s just traveling with a carry on. If it goes well, I like the idea of being able to take a quick weekend trip up there so cheaply!

Thanks for the prompt replies! I will be visiting in October but have already purchased tickets to fly into Portland :frowning: If I get in (fingers crossed!) and decide to go I will certainly make use of the cheapest airline tickets I have ever seen!

Jealous! Wish we had this choice.
The Pasco airport is a long drive from campus but not so far that it’s impossible to find a ride. Reasonable shuttle is available like mmaah said:

Yes–these cheap flights certainly make Whitman more accessible for the LA crowd!

results: I went to Whitman for parents’ weekend on Allegiant (from LA) and roundtrip, including the $7. shuttle from Pasco to Walla Walla and back, cost me under $100. It’s almost unbelievable. Our daughter also came home for Thanksgiving on this airline. Our experiences were great. The best part, aside from the ridiculous price, is that the Grapeline Shuttle connecting Walla Walla to Pasco is timed perfectly for the 2 Allegiant flights each week (Thursday and Sunday evenings), and is within walking distance to the college. They told us at the airline that they are slowly adding more airports, like Long Beach to Las Vegas for $9.99!

kolijma, that’s amazing. What a deal.

S came home for the Thanksgiving break, he took the Grapeline Shuttle bus to Pasco, then flew United nonstop to SFO. He easily walked to the Grapevine depot, rode the bus and boarded the flight with about 15 other students who were doing the same thing. He returned yesterday morning. The return flight was delayed for a couple hours by bad weather in Pasco, but he said he was hanging around at SFO with about 30 other Whitties. When he got to Pasco he was able to hitch a ride back to campus. This has turned out to be the cheapest way from the Bay Area. Round trip was $265, plus $7 each way on the Grapeline, however, nowhere near the deal you folks have!
