Transportation?

I am visiting Washington and Lee in a few weeks, and was wondering if anyone knew what kind of transportation is available from the Charlottesville Amtrak station to campus area.

Unfortunately I don’t think any. Look on website under visiting and I think it gives details on transportation options. Or call admissions office. I know a lot of kids from long way aways fly into Roanoke, but that’s still almost an hour from campus. charlottesville is probably hour to hour and half. N

It’s ridiculously hard to get between these two towns.
Try this page link: [Airport and Ground Transportation Information :: Washington and Lee University](http://www.wlu.edu/x52286.xml) There’s a spreadsheet pdf there with phone numbers. NOTE that some services don’t run on the weekend or Sunday.

If youare short on time, you would likely have to get a taxi or limo between Cville and Lex, about $70! The kids all hate the Nancy of Nanceportation and only use her if they absolutely must. “She’s crabby and mean.” She’s reliable, but comes with a bad attitude apparently.

Or you can take the Greyhound Bus which is significantly less expensive (about $30) but I believe it goes first to either Roanoke or Richmond. Adds a lot of time to your trip. But you can buy tickets online. Good luck!

amtrak evidently goes to Staunton which is about 40 min. from Lex.

^^^^^BUT NOT RELIABLY. I have experienced both that the Amtrak won’t be traveling there for over a week, or that they will cancel service at random (if you have already bought the ticket they will call you otherwise you are SOL I guess).

hmm good to know. Does anybody have any suggestions on what is the best transportation from the Roanoke airport?

That one’s easier: 540-345-7710 or 800-288-1958.
About $30 each way.

On a practical level, how hard is it to get between Lexington and the Roanoke Airport on a regular basis if you are an out-of-state student? Has anyone had issues with this or is there a good system in place?

seems like informally people have good luck getting rides to Roanoke anyway. Anyone from school heading south for a break goes right by Roanoke and airport literally minutes off the highway. I know several times the people giving my daughter a ride home have also dropped someone off. You can use campus notices to search for ride.
