transportation

i have been accepted to fsu for summer 2007. i plan on bringing my car from orlando. however, i will probably only use it for long-distance excursions. for all other commuting i'm planning on rolling around on a sector nine. will it be worth the money to pay for a parking pass and a longboard?

or should i forget about the car/board altogether?

Where will you be living? On campus or off?

By long board - do you mean for surfing?

One "free" parking permit is included in the per credit transportation access fee everyone has to pay.

i'm not sure which hall i will be living in yet, but i plan to live on campus. and by longboard i mean skateboard. i doubt the panhandle has much surf :(
thanks for the info about the free pass - does it expire after one term?

Cost of parking will not be an issue - where you will park is the concern. Most all students walk around campus, on-campus residents have a real advantage in not having to search for a parking spot. With the quality of the dorms, living on campus is the best way to go as far as I can see.

Some kids bring bikes, but most walk. The sidewalks get so crowded during busy times it'd be hard to skateboard anywhere efficiently.

alright, thanks. bummer - i'll reconsider the idea.

my friend brought her car for the same reason, but shes bringing it back home because its a waste. do you have friends coming to fsu? you can just bum rides with them. skateboards are pretty popular, although going uphill on the hills here sucks im guessing. Parkings just such a problem that a lot of people dont want to move their cars. hope it helps

It seems that most places around town are walk-able, bus-able or bum ride-able. My vehicle-less son has been able to go out to clubs, movies, shopping etc no problem. Also, he has had no trouble at all finding rides to visit his girlfriend in Orlando on many weekends by offering $20 for gas.

My son needs a ride from Orlando to FSU on Aug 16, 17 or 18. I am not having any luck finding a bus that does this. Any ideas?

There was a Amtrak train station in Tallahassee, but after researching, it was closed since 2005. If you cannot drive him, or find someone who is able to give him ride, the most extreme scenario would be having him fly from Orlando to Tallahassee airport.

Edit: I did look at greyhound, and it seems that they are able to do this.

[GMG Transports Gainsville to Miami](http://www.gmgtrans.com/schedules.php)

This service has been around for years. It started as a bus that stopped along the turnpike from Miami to UF. Then they added a bus from Miami to FSU.

The pickup spot for the trip I believe is the Turkey Lake rest stop on the Turnpike.

Another option is taking the UCF to FSU bus, and picking it up at UCF. There is lots of info on the website, and you can pay online or call.

I was able to find a Greyhound bus going that way on Aug 18. Thanks for your help!

On our way up to FSU yesterday, we passed a bus offering service from Tallahassee to Orlando and Miami. Redcoachusa.com is their website - the bus looked VERY comfortable and from looking at their facebook, lots of happy customers.

It might be a bit more pricey than TMT or GMG (or whatever they are called) but it might offer an alternative?

I just looked at the Redcoachusa.com website, and The Tallahassee-Miami price is $20 cheaper than tmt ($60 vs. $80) for a round trip ticket. This looks like it’s only a special offer till August 31st though, so I wonder how much the tickets will be regularly.
