Transportion

My dad's thinking about selling my car soon since I'm heading off to college, but I was wondering, I know that UGA allows freshman to drive, so would it be extremely useful to have your own car, do people use their cars often, will I miss my car a lot if I don't have it with me? or can I get around fine with the bus system and walking? Also, if we use the bus system, when do we pay the student transportion fee? I was trying to look for info about payment on the bus transit website, but all they did was mention it. Thanks for your help guys.

There is no need to have a car because there will be just enough of your friends that have a car so that you can get around. Its a bit of a hassle because you have to keep moving it almost every friday because there are football games and you have a designated area to park. Also, you might not get a parking that is close to you and you end having to go a lot farther away for the parking lot designated to you. The uga bus runs often and runs until 1 am. Everything is usually within walking distance or bus distance.

The public bus is easy to use. Your uga id is your bus id and the website shows what times they come and the maps of which places. However, it does come like once an hour, maybe less, but still annoying. I missed my car when I had to get my hair done and I had to wait so long for the bus.

It really depends if you are going to go off campus or other than close downtown athens. Don't worry about paying a transportation fee, it should be included in one of the numerous fees. You have to pay it, whether or not you use the public bus system or uga bus system.

Agree with ladybajan. It's cheaper and probably less of a hassle on the whole to go at least freshman year without a car. All bus fares are included in the transportation fee you pay as part of tuition.

awesome to hear, thanks for the info guys, it saved me a lot of trouble
