I plan on visiting w my son on April 18 from CT. Any inside tips for transport from airport, car rentals, etc ????

My only tip, which is probably too late for you, is that it is sometimes cheaper to fly into Dayton than Cincinnati. Otherwise, no tips about rental cars. Good luck! Hope you love Miami!

We waited til the last minute and did rental car through Hotwire. It was 19.99 per day, plus all the taxes and stuff. We are flying into Dayton.

Thanks! we are flying into Cincinnati using miles so that worked out. Car rental wasn’t awful but more than 19.99 but good advice for next time :-*

Also worried that Good Friday is probably not a great day to visit but we have no alternative

I don’t think they get a break around Easter so that day should be fine. We were actually looking at it as an alternative, when we were going to visit Miami and IU at the same time.

We thinking to Visit on April 18th too but not finalized Yet, we be driving from Chicago like 5 hr drive.
At this point its a Tie between MU Honors and UA Honors, MU closer to Chicago and small in size but UA has better Merit $$ and bigger in size but much further .Both of these Schools are Safety for Son Plus UIC Honors Program too…

Applied to Ivies and some other Great schools too but they all are Reach at the moment and wont know till end of March.

We are in the same situation dadfor2014. We drove from chicago (4 hours for us because we are in the south suburbs…and I drive fast) for the Make It Miami day on monday the 17th. Son is deciding between Miami and Butler, and waiting on decisions from his reach schools (Vanderbilt, Wash U and Washington and Lee). I wish we found out before the end of March because we both are ready to make a final decision. It is worth revisiting Miami and making the drive. It is a great school and is my choice for my son. He still cannot decide.

^^ The more we read about MU the more interesting its getting. Son like MU over UA but he has not visited anyone of them yet. His first choices are WUSTL followed by DUKE and FA will play a big part even he get accepted in these schools. Indianapolis is ~ 4 hrs from us South West suburbs so not a bad drive to Oxford Ohio.

We’ve ventured away from travel advice, and if you’ve read my posts you already know, but we couldn’t really find anything wrong with Miami. It is predominately white, and we do wish the population was more diverse. It’s going to be a struggle for my son to make the decision.

@dadfor2014 what are his views about Alabama? and @1214mom what were your likes/dislikes about what you saw at Miami beside the lack of diversity

If you read my posts here you will get more info., but we thought it was very clean, felt very safe, they have an uptown area with restaurants and things, the food wasn’t bad on campus, and most importantly, everyone we talked to was really nice and really loved the school. I just asked random people, and they all gave glowing recommendations. My son did not want to sit in on a class, so we didn’t do that. I would have strongly encouraged him to sit in, but they were talking about an ice storm and I wanted to get out before it started. People did say the courses were challenging, which it was happy to hear. They even said they liked or didn’t mind the Miami plan! which is kind of like other colleges “core curriculum” kind of thing.

thanks

@ngutierrez sons view about Alabama is kind of Neutral, He is not a big Fan of the school but like Schools in North then South, He dont like Big State Schools and Alabama is almost twice the size of MU. He like more Competitive schools and thinks MU has a slight edge over Alabama. His Dream school is DUKE and WUSTL which he visited both and fell in love with both Campuses… I myself prefer Alabama over MU due to Financial reason and think both schools have great Academic Program, son in pre-med track and Bama has a great pre-med program too. But in the End its his Call and we will know for sure by end of March or may be Early if WUSTL accepted him early with a good FA pkg.

Anyone have thoughts on route from DC…north on 70 thru Wheeling, or south on 79 to 50 West? Google maps says 70 route is 15 minutes quicker, but southern route may be a more relaxing drive?
