The first trip home looks to be Fall Leave Oct 22. It states no exams scheduled after 16:30. How long are exams does this mean the exam could be over one or two hours later? If you want to take advantage of lower fares does anyone with experience know if a flight out of LGA at 19:00 would be reasonable? I know it is still a little early to book the flight but I did want to start checking prices.

For the holiday trips home by air. Any experince of how early they need to be booked. Are there problems with flights filling up at holiday time? What has been the experience of the group? Should you book a holiday flight at least a month ahead of travel time? This would be for flights at mid size airports. Airports a step down from ATL or CLT.

I always booked a month out to get better rates. 7pm would be good for departure time. I pushed it way too close one time getting a 5:30pm flight & son was sprinting as he had one of the later exams on the last day. I recall APE saying that Jetblue had flights out of NY to Charlotte for $69.00 each way. The tricky thing about the Xmas break flights is the weather. Have him save Friendly Taxi Service Of Great Neck 516.466.0066 to his cell phone. He can give them a ring to let them know what time he's leaving & to which airport. These guys shuttle kids to & from LGA & JFK & know the days they are leaving in mass for their breaks.

I have already bought my son's tickets for Christmas, but that is because there are so few flights available from New York to Boise and some had already filled. He will have to spend the night after finals and fly out the next morning--and will have to leave home a day early at the end of break--because it takes a day to fly. We had the same problems when he went to the Academy for a visit. I realize I may have jumped the gun a bit, and over time I may learn the ropes from other Idaho parents, but I didn't want to get caught with no ticket!! Now we will just pray that weather doesn't cause delays!

It is hard to know what time to get tickets because you don't want to get them too early in the day and a test conflict when you don't know their test times.

We usually get the last time out on AA to Dallas and then our son goes to the airport as soon as he can and gets on standby. He has so far gotten on the next flight after checking in especially when he is in uniform. The AA counter people are always so helpful to him when they see the military ID.

One time he got there early morning with an evening flight and was on the next flight out.
