A travel allowance for resident students depends on the distance from the student's home to Carnegie Mellon. This allowance will vary in range from $0 to a maximum of $1,500.

I called into the office of admissions (probably the wrong place, but that's where the # on the page is to) and the woman i spoke with said that CMU does nothing of this sort. She said while CMU will sometimes pay for baggers to come out, current students are on their own. I just find her words hard to believe when the website explicity says that there is an allowance. I also live in Arizona, so any help getting out there (or back!) would be great :D.

Do any current or incoming students/parents of students know if there is indeed a travel allowance? Thanks =)

That page is an estimate of the costs it will be to attend CMU. For example, they estimate the book cost, but they dont buy your books for you.

Basically, its saying that YOU (your family/you/if youre taking out loans/whatever) should expect to spend that amount for you to travel home, based on average times that students visit home.

that makes sense. thanks for clarifying
