Travel ideas needed for a beach vacation in January

Funny you mention Costa Rica! We just received some info from Gate1 Travel that we’ve used before, but it looked like beaches were not really a focus when traveling there, was that the wrong impression?

I think if you want to sit on a beach, only the very southern part of Florida would be warm enough.

Anywhere in the Caribbean would be great and is high season.

we did a 1/2 beach 1/2 inland package. Inland is almost as good as the beach with the hot springs . We stayed at a place called Tabacon and it was fabulous. Then we ended up in Taramindo. North of there is Conchal, which has a bunch of resorts. There is a marguaritaville somewhere as well.

Years ago we vacationed in Belize in January. The weather was glorious!

Where in Belize were you? I have some questions.

I may be able to help with Belize as well. I’ve stayed multiple times on Ambergris Caye

Caye Caulker, Placencia and in the Jungle up the (then dirt, probably paved by now) road from Punta Gorda.

Loved Placencia best.

I have questions about hopkins .

I second the recommendation for Costa Rica–I have been there several times (yoga/surf retreats). For non-retreat type resorts–check out the resorts in the Osa Peninsula. There are many places. The beach there is great as is the weather.

Also, my daughter has been to Vieques (island off the coast of Puerto Rico) in the winter and loved it. We also did a girl’s weekend (my daughters,step-daughter, and granddaughter) at the Dorado Beach Resort. The resort is about 20-25 miles from San Juan. It was beautiful–pricey but worth it.

We loved Belize! We live near the beach, so we opted to stay in the rainforest and it was magical! We did tours from the resort (reef snorkeling, caving, tubing, ruins, cultural tours), but also had days we just relaxed and chilled at the pool.

We just got back from a family trip to Puerto Rico and it’s pretty wonderful too! So much to see and do, and the food is extraordinary.

Key West can be fun and interesting but it is definitely not a beach vacation.

We did Providencialis Turks and Caicos for our 60th. That has been my favorite beach vacation. Absolutely stunning!!
