Travel to Cambridge, New Haven, Providence, and NYC from Amherst

I will have friends going to school in each of these places next year and am wondering how an Amherst student would normally go about traveling to each place (bus, train, etc.). How long does it take, how expensive is it, which transportation systems would one typically use, and so on? Advice about traveling to any or all of these locations is greatly appreciated.

I don’t know the area that well, but heard there is a Peter Pan busline (you can see its website). It goes to cities like Providence and Boston. They aren’t that far away… I also wondered about transportation to New Bedford, MA

Maybe someone else will see the email and give an update!

Yes, Amherst to Cambridge would be by Peter Pan Bus. I think it would cost you about $15.00 and would take about 90 minutes to 2hrs. The Bus actually lets you off at South Station in Boston. The South Station complex is also a Red Line subway stop. The Red Line
takes you to Harvard Square (about 10 minutes) for about $1.50.

I don’t know if there is a bus directly to Providence, but South Station also has buses and Amtrak trains to Providence and New Haven.

Am I to understand your school sent graduates to Amherst College, Harvard, Yale & Brown? Impressive!
