Travel to Pitt

What airline/airport is the closest, best to use when flying to Pittsburgh?

We fly out of New Orleans, and most often use Southwest, which does not seem to fly into Pittsburgh.

Also, is there Amtrak service in Pittsburgh, where kids can take a train up/down to the DC area for holidays?

Thanks for any info!

Pittsburgh International Airport is a relatively short ride away from campus (it’s in West Mifflin). I fly Southwest to get to Pittsburgh, but then again I leave from Philly–I’m not sure if there’s service from LA, but you can always check their website. There is an Amtrak station Downtown, and it’s right across the street from the Greyhound bus terminal.

We fly JetBlue NYC to Pittsburgh. The airport there is really nice, pretty new. There’s a city bus that provides service to and from the airport that stops near Pitt. It takes about an hour, and it gets crowded on holidays. But the kids get on the bus for free with their Panther card. The bus stops running at midnight. I keep meaning to check out Amtrak, but we’ve never done it. It’s nine scheduled hours from Pittsburgh to New York City.

Must have missed that Pittsburgh link to Southwest. Or maybe it’s very complicated, with lots of changing planes.

Any other airlines fly to Pittsburgh?

Thanks for any info!

Just go on orbitz.com or expedia.com and see which carriers fly from N.O. to Pittsburgh.
