Traveling between Chicago & U-C

DS will be arriving via O'Hare International Airport. May I know if taking a flight from there to Willard Airport is much preferred than taking a bus? Would anyone actually recommend taking the bus instead? Where can I get more info about this bus service? Thanks.

you can take bus from greyhound station not too far from union station. metro train is available to union station from airport. bus station is easy walking distance from union station or short cab ride.

Flying would generally be quicker. Taking a “bus” is probably not the best option since you have to go to Downtown Chicago to get it. Taking the Amtrak is an option but you also need to go to Downtown Chicago to get it. A different option is called the Illini Shuttle (illinishuttle.com) which is a van not a bus, which has pick-up at O-Hare and actually drops you off right at UIUC, but you do have a few stops in the Chicago area en route.

Thanks, guys.

Flying would be the fastest for sure, but the most expensive.

If trains and buses only operate from Chicago downtown to campus, then that’s a little inconvenient having to get from airport to city first.

That leaves only the illini shuttle which seems like a very good option and only a 3.5 hr ride to campus.

You can take suburban express from o’hare to campus

^ The Illini Shuttle that I mentioned above which runs several times daily is part of Suburban Express; the large bus Suburban Express run is limited to weekends.

Thanks again. I presume the larges buses of suburban express would be preferred? They operate only on weekends is that thru the year or only during term time? My son is planning to arrive only on Aug 15 (Mon) or Aug 14 (Sun) just before the start of term.

someone have a link to the s .express for more info?

what if we are trying to go up to Chicago for a weekend during the school year and would rather take the train than a cramped van? Does anyone have approximate train prices and is there a train station in Urbana-Champaign that isn’t too far from campus?

There is Amtrak that costs about $38 depending on what time you leave etc. The Amtrak station is in downtown Champaign. You can take a bus there from campus. The train takes you to Union Station in downtown Chicago.

Suburban Express has pickup locations all around Chicagoland at many of the major malls such as Woodfield and Oakbrook. Flying from O’Hare to Willard would just be silly if you ask me. Way too much money.
