treasurer on prom commitee?

I'll be a senior in september, and I was offered to be a treasurer on the Prom Commitee by the president. I'm just wondering if this is worth my time. There would be some commitment with the meetings and checking out banquet halls and such with the other members, and I also have other ECs, volunteering going on.

I'll be applying to hotel school at Cornell U for ED.
Does anyone think I should take this offer (will it improve my chances)? Or is it not worth it?
Thankss

Don’t do something just for the whole college application aspect. And disregarding the whole college thing, why wouldn’t you want to do it anyways? I’m sure it’s a great chance to be able to have some input on your senior prom - an event that is important to many.

I agree with Jchen, no matter what college you are accepted to or decide to attend, you will still be going to prom. If you are going to be part of the prom committee do it because you are genuinely interested in having a voice in your prom and not because how it will look to colleges.

But to answer your question, imho, it will not improve your chances or “earn” you any "points’ in the admissions process if you have never been involved in anything at your school over the past 3 years. There is a difference between being offered the position because you have friends who would like to work with you, being elected to the position because your peers feel that your qualifications make you the best person for the job or being elected simply because you may be popular or part of an in crowd.

It’ll probably be very fun, so do it. It’ll not be very impressive though.
