So i am running to be the Class Treasurer of 269 (my graduating class number). Can you guys help me out? Think of things you would want to hear in a speech like this and things i can change to make it better. Possibly some funny things? Thanks.

Treasurer Speech

Hey 269 Whatsup . I’m Sushant Bhardwaj and I’m currently running to be the 269 Class Treasurer for next year. You don’t need to know the last name, just remember Sushant. First off, a lot of you might not even know what a treasurer exactly does. A treasurer is basically the person in charge of the money. So you guys might wanna pay attention to this because I know all of you care about your money.
Let me tell you why you guys should vote for me. You guys should vote for me because im the better candidate. I ll bring innovative ideas to the table and try to make everything more efficient. I will bring about change. No I am not trying to be Barack Obama, I really do want to improve things.
One thing you guys might not know is that the president, the vice president, the secretary, and the treasurer all work together as a group. We’ll all try to make the next year better for 269. We’ll try to work things out so we can go on some class trips. We ll try to make Junior Prom cheaper because we all know that Soph hop cost a bit too much. Last but not least we’ll try to make 269 live up to its expectation, as Mr Kollman said, the best class Central High has ever seen. So vote for me as your Class Treasurer and I promise you that you will gain a trustworthy leader. Thank You.

Lot of kids like Barack--the humor will fail them. You want to be either serious or funny, not both (in my opinion). Your speech is mostly serious--make it so.

enderkin, I disagree. I think that if you were to make a fully serious speech, nobody would vote for you because you are boring and say things that every candidate running has ever said, "Im a good candidate, im organzied, i have leadership blah blah blah." On the other hand, you can't have a completely funny speech because people will think you are making a huge joke out of it. The best idea would be to stick with what he is doing, which is a mixture of funny and serious.

The Obama thing is hilarious, but for some people who like Obama, you may loose their vote so thats the only iffy thing. But really, in the end school elections just come down to a popularity contest.

Make a bunch of promises you can't keep. It worked at our school, our class president was a "ghetto" hispanic kid who said he'd get us cookies so we all voted for him.

The Obama thing is stupid. Also, it will probably break bad if you live in a liberal area, or worse, no one will care (some people don't care about the election :P)

People in schools vote very superficially, mainly because no matter who take the position, they know it won't really end up effecting them (student government is an annoying joke, though I suppose if there has to be one, a democracy is better than a dictatorship). Most people will vote based on who they know better, or like more. Like if there are 3 people to choose from: Bill, Jane, and John. You don't know Bill or John very well, but they seem like nice guys, however Jane is your Best friend, well you get the idea.

Just be friendly, and try to make a memorable speech. There will be a few people who don't know who to vote for (but either feel the need to take it seriously or don't know of any of the candidates). These are they guys to go after, if they like your speech, they'll probably vote for you.

so thats the problem. I know its a popularity contest.. but i want the votes of those who dont know me. Is that a memorable speech? If not, can you guys help me make it one?? Thanks for the comments i ll consider taking out the obama thing, my school is very liberal but most kids like hillary.

sushant 269- Having copies your flyer on a currency template would be good advertising..". You indicated that everyone cares about their money. This is where you want to interject an example, such as you have a checking account for x years and have never o/drawn your account...etc etc..and how you can help them manage better. Find out what is in place and not working and tell how you will bring about process improvement...Good luck

ya thanks learninginprog but i dont wanna put a bunch of info in there. It needs to be short, concise, and memorable. I dotn wanna go into that many details. I think the only thing i might need to improve on is memorable sentences. Something that would have ppl say "oh haha sushant the kid who said blah blah blah" Automatically something funny enters your mind. I am not really funny and dont have much of a sense of humor and that usually does the trick. Any funny ideas?

i dont mean to hijack the thread, but what would you guys suggest to put into a speech for a white guy running for class office (president) at an all black/hispanic (90%) school? racial tension is pretty high, and i'm pretty much the stereotypical white dude (i wear polo shirts, worn out shorts, flip flops). the class officers dont really do anything, either, its really pathetic. i came to this school at the beginning of the school year (elections were held the previous spring), and i got to be class treasurer because no one ran in the previous year (yeah, its that pathetic). so this year, someones running for the presidency, so there will actually be a vote this time. in the speech, should i address the race thing at all? the one person that i know for sure is running for president is uhm...ehhh...well, she can relate to the rest of the school, so i bet that it'll pretty much be a popularity contest.

heyyy get outta here !! my thread :D lol jk jk hmm dont address it in ure speech.. dont say "hey im white, shes black, i know im at a disadvantage!" .. well atleast i wouldnt incorporate race in it.
